Oregon State Travels to Arizona to Face Sun Devils and Wildcats

THE GAMES: Oregon State hits the road for the first time in two weeks to take on Arizona State (Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. PT) and Arizona (Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. PT) for the final two road games of the 2019 regular season.

HISTORY WITH THE SUN DEVILS: Thursday's game marks the 23rd time OSU and ASU will meet. The Beavers have won three games while in Tempe. The last OSU win was in 2016 when the Beavers scored two goals while shutting out the Sun Devils. The last time OSU won in Tempe was 2011 when OSU took down ASU, 2-1.
HISTORY WITH THE WILDCATS: Sunday's match will mark the 25th time Oregon State and Arizona have met in women's soccer. Arizona leads the series. OSU last defeated the Wildcats in 2012 at Lorenz Field, 5-1. The Beavers last won in Tucson in 2011 when OSU shutout Arizona for a 1-0 win.

- 10 Beavers have scored at least one goal this season (Weinert - 8, McReynolds - 5, Schwartz - 3, Conrad, Fried and Studer - 2, Fonsen, Leblic, Lemmond and Malone - 1)
- Sophomore Sydney Studer leads OSU with 1317 minutes played followed closely by Madison Ellsworth and Bridgette Skiba each clocking 1304.
- The Beavers are No. 50 in the nation in win-loss-tied percentage (.714).
Offensive Mindset:
- Oregon State has outscored opponents 26-11 this season.
- OSU has recorded 211 shots this season through 14 games - in 2018 OSU only recorded 131 shots on the season.
- The 211 shots this season sit fifth in the Pac-12 while sitting sixth in total points (75).
- The Beavers have 23 assist this season coming from 12 players  compared to last season only having one total assist.
- Oregon State has taken 73 corners this season.
- Redshirt sophomore McKenzie Weinert is tied for fifth in goals (eight) and tied for seventh in points (18) in the Pac-12
- Freshman Brianna McReynolds has been a force for OSU this season scoring five goals (second on team and tied for 16th in Pac-12) and leads the team with five assists (tied for eighth in Pac-12). McReynolds was also the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 17 and named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
- McReynolds became the first Beaver to record a hat trick since 2011 after scoring three goals against Houston on Sept. 12. She also tallied an assist to finish with seven points.
Dominating Defense:
- Oregon State has started the same back unit for the first 14 games (Ellsworth, Fried, Salveter and Studer) with sophomore Bridgette Skiba in goal.
- The back unit has only given up 183 shots this season (13.07 per game).
- As a whole, OSU has posted six clean sheets with Bridgette Skiba recording five-solo shutouts (tied for ninth in OSU season history).
- Skiba currently sits tied for second in the Pac-12 for solo-shutouts (five), fourth in goals-against average (.760), fourth in save percentage (.810) and fourth in saves (47).
- In the nation, Skiba sits 43rd in goals-against average.
- Skiba was named Top Drawer Soccer's National Player of the Week on Oct. 8.
- OSU sits third in the Pac-12 for fewest goals allowed (11) and goals-against average (.750). The Beavers are also fifth in total saves (48).
- As a defensive unit, OSU sits 38th in the nation in goals-against average.
- The Beavers defense have added to the offensive stance with Fried, Studer and Fonsen each scoring at least one goal. Dayton, Fonsen, Fried and Salveter have also each recorded an assist on the season.
New Era Under Kagan:
-2019 marks the first season for head coach Matt Kagan who joins the Beavers after spending the prior two years as the associate head coach at Mississippi State.
- During his first season at MSU, the Bulldogs posted the best record the program had had in 16 years.
- Kagan has been a member of nine coaching staffs that have led teams to the NCAA Tournament - three of those teams have advanced to the Sweet 16.
- Kagan started his professional career in 2004 at Assumption College in Massachusetts before taking the reigns of Worcester State from 2005-08.
The Staff:
- Kagan brings in three distinguished coaches to join his staff.
- Jenny Ruiz-Williams was a four-year letterwinner at UNLV and a two-time All-Mountain West Selection while helping the program to their first ever NCAA appearance.
- Ruiz-Williams was a member of the Mexican National Team when they won bronze at the Pan American Games in 2003, 2011 and 2015. Ruiz-Williams scored the game-winning goal in the bronze-medal game in 2011 against Columbia.
- Ruiz-Williams joined the Seattle Reign FC in 2013 before competing in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup with Mexico.
- Nick Stirrett joins the Beavers staff working primarily with the goalkeepers after spending the last three seasons at the University of Illinois where he helped the Illini finish fifth in the Big Ten.
- Prior to his time at Illinois, Stirrett helped lead the Penn State Nittany Lions to become the 2015 NCAA National Champions.
- Stirrett also spent two seasons as the head men's coach at the University of Mount Union.
- Tiff Crooks joins the staff as the Director of Operations after spending the last 12 seasons as the head coach at Case Western Reserve University.
- Crooks is the winningest coach in CWRU program history.
Newcomers:
- The Beavers welcome nine newcomers to the 2019 roster, seven freshman and two transfers.
- Five newcomers have combined for 30 of OSU's 75 points to date (McReynolds - 15, Schwartz - 7, Conrad - 4, Galceran and Salveter - 2).
- Freshman Marley Salveter has started every game for the Beavers this season to date with 986 minutes played. McReynolds and Herrera have both started 12 games this season, while Schwartz has started 10, Galceran five and Conrad one.
Last Week vs. No. 25 Washington:Â
- Oregon State fell to the Huskies on Friday night, 2-1.
- Washington scored both goals in the first half, as OSU kept the Huskies off the board in the second half.
- McKenzie Weinert tacked on her eighth goal of the season in the 58th minute of play after gaining possession off her blocked shot.
- OSU outshot Washington, 19-14, but weren't able to come away with teh win.
Coming Up:Â
- Oregon State returns home for the final three games of the regular season to host UCLA on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. and USC on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m.
