Thompson Jr. Scores 30 In Loss To Huskies

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Stephen Thompson Jr. scored 30 points, and hit a career-high six 3-pointers, but it wasn't enough in a 79-69 loss to Washington on Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies (15-4, 7-0 Pac-12) jumped out to an 11-0 lead and built it to as many as 21 points in the second half to win their ninth straight game.
Â
Oregon State (12-7, 4-3 Pac-12) rallied late to cut the lead to nine on two separate occasions but were unable to get any closer.

Thompson Jr. went 11-for-19 from the field, including 6-for-11 from deep, to score 30 points for the fourth time in his career. He scored a career-high 34 points earlier this season against USC. His previous career high was five 3-pointers made, which he accomplished five times.

Tres Tinkle added 18 points and nine rebounds, and Ethan Thompson finished with nine points, five rebounds and six assists for Oregon State.

The Huskies' zone defense forced the Beavers into 44 percent shooting and 15 turnovers. Washington scored 25 points off those turnovers, shot 58 percent from the field and had 12 turnovers.

Jaylen Nowell scored 19 points with three 3-pointers, Nahziah Carter added 18 points and David Crisp had 14. Matisse Thybulle, the reigning Pac-12 defensive player of the year, finished with 11 points and five steals.

The Beavers next head to Boulder to face Colorado at 6 p.m. PT (7 p.m. MT) on Thursday. The game will be televised on Pac-12 Network.
