• The Beavers face the host Wildcats (4-1) Friday evening. The teams have met four times previously with OSU having a 3-1 advantage including a sweep in Corvallis last season.
• OSU concludes the weekend on Saturday morning against North Texas. The Beavers met UNT for the first time last season with the Mean Green winning in a sweep.
NON-CONFERENCE
In 2017, the Beavers opened the season 6-0 before falling to North Texas in Denton to take their first loss of the season ... this weekend, OSU (4-1) seeks to improve its record to record to 7-1, which would tie last season's start.
ACES
• Despite returning five starters from 2017, three newcomers earned starting roles for the season-opener against Virginia - redshirt freshman MB Lindsey Schell, junior transfer OH Amy Underdown and sophomore transfer S Allison Hughes.
• Last week at the Rose City Showdown, OSU started freshman setter Maddie Sheehan in both matches. With her start against UC Davis (OSU's fourth match of the season), she became the third setter to start a match for the Beavers.
• Sophomore libero Grace Massey was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Massey accumulated a conference-high 65 digs at the Iowa State Challenge and was named as a tournament co-MVP.
• Sophomore OH Maddie Goings and Schell were named to the Iowa State Challenge all-tournament team. Goings registered a career-high 25 kills in the win over the Cyclones and was in double-digits in all three matches. Schell also converted at least 10 kills in each match and added 21 blocks in her first college action.
• Senior Kayla Ellis moved up OSU's all-time rankings last week to fifth with 1,246 career digs. She passed Kristy Wing (1988-91) and Miya Malauulu (1994-97). She is on pace to move into the top three on OSU's all-time list by the end of the season. She needs 58 digs to tie Shelly Smith (1991-94) for fourth in OSU histiry with 1,304.
• Senior Kory Cheshire ranks tied (Rachel Hochgesang, 1993-96) for 23rd all-time in total blocks at OSU. She needs 12 blocks to move into the top 20 in OSU history.
