Marlon Stewart Joins Men’s Basketball Staff
May 22, 2018 | Men's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Marlon Stewart, who was an assistant basketball coach the past two seasons, will join the Oregon State men's basketball program as the director of basketball operations, Wayne Tinkle announced Tuesday.
"We are very excited to be adding Marlon to our staff," Tinkle said. "He comes from a great coaching tree with Tony Bennett and Mike Montgomery. He brings a wealth of experience coaching and recruiting, which I know we are going to be able to tap into in the coming years. He's a person with great character with a lot of connections that will be a valuable asset to Oregon State."
Stewart was an assistant coach at the University of Hawai'i last season and helped lead the Rainbow Warriors to a 17-13 record. He was an assistant coach at the University of Montana in 2016-17 when the Grizzlies went 16-16. He was the defensive coordinator and handled international recruiting at both places.
"I am extremely thankful for the opportunity provided by Coach Ganot at the University of Hawai'i," Stewart said. "I have met and worked with so many great people that will always be a part of my life.
"My fiancé and I are thrilled to be headed to Corvallis. Getting to know Coach Tinkle over the past few years it was clear to me that I wanted to develop under his mentorship. The opportunity to do that in a community like Corvallis, within driving distance of home and in the Pac-12 is a dream come true."
A native of Mercer Island, Wash., Stewart was the director of basketball operations at the University of Montana from 2014-16 and was responsible for compliance, overseeing strength and conditioning, basketball camps and assisted with fundraising.
Stewart began his professional career as the video coordinator at the University of California where he worked from 2008-12. He served as the technology and scouting assistant at the University of Virginia from 2012-14.
He earned a bachelor's degree in sports management from Washington State University in 2008. During his time in Pullman, he was a student manager with the men's basketball team from 2003-06 and a student video coordinator from 2006-08.
Stewart was born on March 16, 1985 in Seattle, Wash. He is engaged to Morgan Close and they plan to get married in June of 2019.
