Oregon State Softball Heads to Stanford

TICKETS ON SALE NOW
• Tickets to select Oregon State softball games are now on sale at BeaverTickets.com/softball
• Tickets can be purchased for the two-game slate against Oklahoma (April 20-21)
• General admission for adults will be $9 per game, youth (ages 3-18)/senior (ages 62 ) tickets will be $7 per game, and groups of 12 or more will be $5 each
• Package deals will be available for all five games: adults - $35, youth/senior - $30
• Oklahoma series only: adult - $16, youth/senior - $12
• Seating at the Oregon State Softball Complex is all general admission, overflow seating will be standing room only on the grass berm beyond the outfield wall, folding charis will be allowed on the grass berm
• Student tickets have to be picked up in person at the complex starting one hour prior to first pitch
• Sales, will call and student tickets will be located at the front gate , the back gate will be closed for public entrance
• Cash or check requred for tickets purchased at the venue, while one window will be open at the southeast ticket booth of Reser Stadium for credit card sales
• The remaining home series against Cal (March 16-18), Arizona State (April 6-8), Portland State (April 17) and Washington (May 4-6) will be free to the public
 
REWIND
• Oregon State continued Pacific-12 Conference play with a 1-2 series loss to No. 7 Arizona State Sun Devils (33-5, 7-2 Pac-12)
• With impending weather the pair played a doubleheader on Friday with the Beavers falling in game one 10-1.
• McKenna Arriola hit the games only RBI for Oregon State
• Meehra Nelson got the nod throwing 3.1 innings before Nerissa Eason came in for relief
• Nelson struckout three, while Eason had one K
• In the second game of the doubleheader, the Beavers beat the Sun Devils earning another victory over a top-10 opponent
• The Beavers got started early in game two scoring a run in the first
• Hope Brandner had a monstrous day offensively going 2-for-3 with 4 RBI, her third such game with 4 RBI
• Jessica Garcia had one hit and accompanied that with one run scored; Weeks scored two runs with Arriola scoring the final
• Mariah Mazon got the nod in the second game earning her 11th complete game of the year (7.0 ip); Mazon had six strikeouts while giving up only five hits
• History was made in the final game of the series with a 15-inning marathon; the longest game in Oregon State's history
• It was a pitching and defensive dual as both clubs combined for 19 hits, but only three runs
• ASU scored in the third, and following a short rain delay the Beavers got the tying run across in the bottom of the 7th with two outs
• OSU had bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the 13th, but couldn't manage a run; Arizona State won 2-1 in 15 innings.
• Mazon set an OSU school record for innings pitched (15.0 ip) surpassing a record set in 1985 (13.0 ip)
 
UPCOMING
• The Beavers are on the road again for a three-game series at Stanford.
• Oregon State battles Stanford (21-16, 2-7) in the fifth Pac-12  Conference series for the Beavs

BEAVERS IMPRESSIONS
• Upperclassmen lead the way as McKenna Arriola, Alysha Everett and Jessica Garcia  have started every game so far in 2018, with Meehra Nelson and Mariah Mazon anchoring the rotation
• Shelby Weeks, Kayleen Shafer have started in everygame they have appeared in (33, 29)
• Camryn Ybarra has played in 36 games as a true freshman and started 35 of those. She hit her first career homerun at No. 4 UCLA on March. 26 and followed that up in the next game with a solo shot against No. 2/5 Oregon
• Arriola has showcased her speed on the base paths with the third-most stolen bases in the Pac-12 (14); she also leads the team with nine doubles, good enough for seventh in the Pac-12
• Weeks is still the only Beaver to reach every base from the batters box, with 26 hits,  three doubles, a triple and two home runs in 2018
• Garcia has started every game in center field but one and holds a team-high in hits with 38
• Missy Nunes has started all 38 games at third base as a freshman, and is one of only two Beavers to start in every game (38) at the same poisition (Arriola, SS)
• Freshman Hope Brandner leads the Beavers in multiple offensive categories: Batting Average (.305), Home Runs (7), Slugging Percentage (.505), and Fielding Percentage (1.000)
• Brandner currently rides a five-game hit streak; Nunes holds the season-best at eight games
• Nelson owns 348 career strikeouts with 84 on the year so far
• Five true freshman have seen extended action on the field for Oregon State, one of which has started in every game
• Missy Nunes has started every game, Camryn Ybarra has started in  35 games all at second base
• Meehra Nelson has pitched her way to the top of the rotation for the Beavers, Nelson leads OSU in ERA (2.33), Wins (11), Shutouts (3), Opposing Batting Average (.228)
• Mazon has begun to blossom into her role in the circle grabbing a win against a top-10 opponent, and nearly a second in her next start
• Mazon has brought her ERA down to 2.39 and leads OSU in Appearances (24), Starts (15), Complete Games (12), Saves (4), Innings Pitched (132.0), Strikeouts (98)
• Mazon set the Oregon State record for innings pitched in a single game on April 8th against Arizona State (15.0 IP), breaking a 33 year old record
• The freshman Nunes has played a pivotal role in her innagural season; Nunes is batting .248 with thei third-most doubles on the squad (5), second-most home runs (4) and second-best slugging percentage (.410)
• Ybarra has started 35 games at second base and is hitting .210 with nine walks, eight RBI, eight runs scored and two home runs
• Kayleen Shafer has started 29 games behind the plate and has already thrown out a conference-leading eight runners attempting to steal
• Shafer threw out eight base runners as a sophomore in 2017 and gunned down nine as a freshman in 2016
• Sara Lillie has begun to see playing time behind the plate with 10 starts; she holds a .206 BA with five RBI
• Michelle Sass has seen time split between right field and second base; Sass is batting .228 with 12 runs scored and two homers
• OSU is ranked No. 17 in the RPI; last week the Beavers sat at 15th, the highest ever ranking in the RPI 
• The Beavers improve to 7-16 versus ranked opponents this season with wins against Oklahoma State, California, BYU, and Oregon, and Arizona State
• OSU beat rival Oregon for the first time since March of 2012 with a thrilling 4-3 walk-off win on March 30th.
• Laura Berg was named a head coach for the USA Softball Women's National Team for the summer of 2018. Berg previously spent the summer as the head coach for the US

• The non-conference portion of Oregon State's 2018 schedule features a gauntlet of games over the course of five tournaments and four non-conference games
• OSU opens the year with the Kajikawa Classic where four opponents made an appearance in the 2017 NCAA Regionals: Oklahoma State, BYU, Georgia and Missouri
• The Purple and Gold Challenge in Baton Rouge, La., features 2017 WCWS participant LSU along with 2017 NCAA Regional foe Louisiana Tech
• The Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic has 2017 NCAA Super Regional foes Tennessee and Auburn along with Oklahoma State again
• The San Diego Classic features 2017 NCAA Regional participant Minnesota, while OSU wraps up the non-conference schedule against 2017 defending national champion Oklahoma

BERG NAMED HEAD COACH OF WNT
• Head coach Laura Berg will continue her legacy with the USA National Softball team, but this time with the Women's National Team
• Head coach Berg led the 2017 Junior Women's National Team and led the 17-player roster this past summer to a gold medal
• Berg has prior experience with the juniors, being an assistant coach in 2012. Since then, she has helped train the national team
