Beavers Drop Civil War Series Finale in Extra Innings

CORVALLIS – No. 25 Oregon State University softball dropped the Civil War Series finale to No. 2/5 Oregon inside OSU Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon, 5-1.
It was a record-setting day at the ballpark as a new attendance record was set. Fans packed inside OSU Softball Stadium to the tune of 1,410 patrons.
The Beavers fall to 20-15 overall this season and 3-6 in Pac-12 play. Meanwhile, the Ducks improve to 27-6 overall and 4-2 in conference action.
Scoreless through two and a half innings, the 0-0 tie was broken by senior shortstop McKenna Arriola. Arriola sent a shot over the right field wall for her third home run of the season, putting the Beavers on top 1-0 after three complete innings.
The Ducks got the equalizer in the top of the fifth inning behind a leadoff double and an RBI single.
Neither team could find any ground in the sixth and seventh innings. Oregon State left two runners on in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Oregon got the game winning hit from DJ Sanders who sent a grand slam ball over the left-center field wall. Oregon State left one runner on in the bottom of the eighth, falling 5-1.
Arriola finished 2-for-4 with one home run and an RBI. Mariah Mazon (8-9) was credited with the loss. She pitched a complete game with four strikeouts.

The Beavers welcome the Sun Devils of Arizona State to Corvallis as they continue Pac-12 play on Friday, April 6.
