– The No. 8 Oregon State women's basketball team maintained its undefeated record at the Maui Jim Maui Classic Friday evening, as the Beavers took down Eastern Washington 93-45 in Lahaina, Hawaii.
"I thought Eastern Washington came in with a good game plan," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck
. "It was competitive early, but then we got into a rhythm. The ball started moving for us and shots started going down. I like the way our defense impacted them all night. I thought this game was a good chance for us to grow."
Oregon State is hosting the Maui Classic for the third-straight season, and is now 5-0 in the event.
Sophomore Aleah Goodman
set a career-high, scoring 22 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the floor. Destiny Slocum
tallied 17 points, as she scored over 15 for the sixth time this season.
Junior Mikayla Pivec
narrowly missed her second-straight double-double, finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds. Fellow junior Kat Tudor
rounded out the Oregon State players in double-figures with 12 points. Sophomore Taya Corosdale
tallied nine points and eight rebounds.
As a team, the Beavers shot a blistering 57.9 percent in the contest, while holding the Eagles to 32.1 percent shooting. Oregon State also held a 40-23 advantage in rebounds.
The defenses dominated the opening five minutes, as Eastern Washington headed to the first media timeout up 5-3. The teams headed to the second quarter level at 13.
The Beavers exploded mid-way through the second quarter, going on an 8-0 run over a span of less than two minutes to go in front 26-17. Oregon State would extend the run to 18 unanswered points, on its way to a 36-23 halftime advantage.
Slocum and Corosdale led the Beavers with nine points apiece in the opening 20 minutes.
OSU extended the advantage to 20 early in the third quarter, and the offense continued to click from there, as Oregon State shot 84.678.6 percent in the period to head to the closing frame up 67-38.
The Beavers used a 21-3 fourth-quarter run to stretch the advantage, on their way to a 48-point win.
Oregon State will face Texas A&M Saturday evening in the final game of the Maui Jim Maui Classic. The contest will tip off at 9:30 p.m. PT/7:30 p.m. HT.
