Beavers open year with highest preseason ranking in program history
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women's basketball team will enter the 2018-19 season with its highest preseason ranking in program history, coming in at No. 8 in the Associated Press poll, which was announced Wednesday.
Â
The ranking marks the 16th time in program history that the Beavers have been ranked inside the top-eight of the AP Poll. Oregon State's previous highest preseason ranking was No. 10, set in the 2015-16 season.
Â
The Beavers put up a record of 26-8 last season, and made the Elite Eight for the second time in program history. Oregon State has made at least the Sweet 16 in three-straight seasons and has gone to five consecutive NCAA Tournaments.
Â
The Oregon State squad is 116-23 since the start of the 2014-15 season, the seventh-best record in the country, and has won 75 Pac-12 games over that span. The four-highest win totals in program history have all come in the last four years, and the Beavers have been ranked every week over that span.
Â
OSU returns four starters from last year's squad, including three All-Pac-12 Honorable Mentions. Redshirt-sophomore Destiny Slocum will make her Oregon State debut this season, after missing last year due to NCAA transfer rules. The guard has been named to the Nancy Lieberman Award Preseason Watch List, after earning WBCA National Freshman of the Year honors in her debut season at Maryland. Senior Katie McWilliams has also earned preseason recognition, making the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List.
Â
Oregon State is one of five Pac-12 teams to earn a spot in the AP's preseason rankings, and one of three conference squads to make the top-10.
Â
The Beavers will host Northwest Nazarene in an exhibition contest Saturday at 11 a.m. Football parking rules will be in effect for that contest (click here for more info). Oregon State will open the regular season on Nov. 9 when Cal Poly visits Gill Coliseum. OSU's full schedule is here.
Â
Season tickets for the 2018-19 season are available now. The upcoming year will feature a number of upgrades to Gill Coliseum, highlighted by a center-hung video board. Oregon State will also begin charging for parking next season. For more information on season tickets and the upgrades to Gill Coliseum, click here.
