Beavers Come From Behind To Knock Off Tigers

STOCKTON, Calif. – Oregon State erased an 11-point halftime deficit in the third quarter and owned the second half in a 70-60 victory over Pacific (Calif.) to complete the season sweep at the Spanos Center.

Kennedie Shuler scored 31 points, making 12-of-19 from the floor while adding five rebounds and three steals for Oregon State. The Beavers shot 47 percent from the floor and outshot the Tigers 58.5 percent to 33.3 percent in the second half.

Tiara Bolden added 18 points – 15 in the second half - on 6-of-11 shooting, including 2-of-4 from three-point range. Jenna Villa contributed 13 points – 10 in the second half - and made both of her three-point attempts.

Oregon State trailed 18-15 after the first quarter and went to the break down 33-22 but outscored Pacific 26-11 in the third period to seize control. The Beavers went on an 15-2 run out of halftime, holding the Tigers scoreless for more than four minutes and building a seven-point advantage entering the fourth.

The first six points of the comeback run were all on second-chance opportunities as the Lara Alonso-Basurto, Bolden and Shuler grabbed offensive rebounds and scored. Shuler made a layup off an assist from Katelyn Field, then found Bolden for a three-pointer to pull within two. Bolden and Shuler put the Beavs ahead with a pull-up jumper followed by a driving layup.

Shuler and Villa cemented the lead with a 5-0 spurt where the Beavs went up 42-37. OSU did not trail after the juniors hit two free throws and a triple, respectively.

The Tigers narrowed the deficit to one point at 53-52 but Oregon State refused to give the game away. Bolden made a layup, followed by a Shuler steal and jumper. Another layup from Shuler put OSU up five and free throws late secured the win.

The Beavers dominated inside, outscoring Pacific 36-28 in the paint. Oregon State also capitalized on 11 Tiger turnovers, scoring 13 points off miscues.

Alonso-Basurto and Lizzy Williamson each grabbed seven rebounds while to help Oregon State control the glass 39-28.

Oregon State returns home on Thursday, February 19 to take on Portland. The game is OSU's Dam Cancer game and tips at 6 p.m.
