
Berg Adds Seven to 2018 Class

Six recruits hail from the west coast
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Head Coach Laura Berg of the Oregon State University softball program announced the addition of seven new members to the 2018 signing class on Wednesday. Among the seven are three from California, two from Oregon, and one from both Washington and Nevada.
"I'm incredibly excited about the 2018 class," said the Olympic Hall-of-Famer. "They are all extremely talented, explosive and versatile athletes and I cannot wait for them to get to campus.
"We have a mixture of spend and power coming in and they'll be a fun group to watch."
Abby Fischer – C, Fr., 5-9, Vancouver, Wash. (Skyview H.S.)
A three-time First Team All-League selection at Skyview H.S., Fischer joins the Beavers with a lengthy resume coming from her time with the Storm.
Fischer is a two-time All-Region selection at the prep level in addition to her All-League selections. She is also a three-time Offensive Player of the Year, the Defensive Player of the Year and team captain while taking home the MVP award and setting the home run record for Skyview.
The daughter of Nicole and Eric, Fischer will major in biology as she attends Oregon State.
Payton Goodrich – RHP, Fr., 6-0, Hillsboro, Ore. (Hillsboro H.S.)
A two-time NWOC First Team All-League selection for Hillsboro H.S., Goodrich looks to bolster the rotation for OSU as she closes her career for the Spartans.
In addition to her accolades on the NWOC All-League first team, Goodrich was named the 2016 NWOC Player of the Year for her performance on the diamond. The May 2016 Student Athlete of the Month for Hillsboro, Goodrich was also an Honorable Mention All-League selection in 2015 for a strong start to her prep career.
The daughter of Christi and Brain, Goodrich will pursue a degree in early childhood education as she comes to Corvallis.
Frankie Hammoude – 1B/C, Fr., 5-9, Oakland, Calif. (Bishop O'Dowd H.S.)
A two-time NCS Champion at Bishop O'Dowd H.S., Hammoude will continue her winning ways as she joins the Beavers following her prep career for the Dragons.
Hammoude has filled her resume in only three years at Bishop O'Dowd, including a spot on the 2015 MaxPreps Underclass All-America team. Hammoude is a two-time SF Chronicle East Bay Region Player of the Year and two-time selection to the SF Chronicle All-Metro first team for her performance on the diamond at the prep level.
The Oakland, Calif., native was also named to the 2016 Prep2Prep All-NCS first team and was a 2017 Cal-Hi Sports All-State Underclass first team selection as a catcher. In addition to her status on the Cal-Hi team, she was also the 2017 WACC Player of the Year and a First Team All-WACC selection for her outstanding performance.
The daughter of Donna and Sam, Hammoude is undecided on her major as she attends Oregon State.
Bailey McLaughlin – C/3B, Fr., 5-8, Reno, Nev. (Bishop Manogue Catholic H.S.)
Nominated for the 2017 Gatorade Player of the Year, McLaughlin comes to Corvallis after a star-studded career at Bishop Manogue Catholic H.S.
A two-time selection to the All-State first team as a third baseman, McLaughlin was also named to the 2016 and 2017 All-Regional first team for her performance at the hot corner. The Reno, Nev., native was also a 2017 team captain as she led the Miners in the NIAA.
The daughter of Carla and Ethan, McLaughlin will pursue a degree in business and sports medicine as she attends Oregon State.
Izzy Owen – 3B/2B/OF, Fr., 5-7, Manteca, Calif. (East Union H.S.)
A three-time member of the Valley Oak League championship team, Owen comes to OSU with a state championship under her belt for East Union H.S.
Owen is a two-time selection to the All-League first team in addition to receiving the MVP award from the Valley Oak League for the Lancers in her prep career. Owen was also part of the 2015 Division III San Joaquin CIF Section championship team en route to winning the 2015 Division III CIF State Championship.
The daughter of Kristi and Michael, Owen will pursue a sports management/law degree as she attends Oregon State.
Ashton Phillips – CF, Fr., 5-1, Scio, Ore. (Scio H.S.)
A three-time league champion at Scio H.S., Phillips will join the Beavers after an illustrious career for the Loggers.
While at Scio, Phillips was named to the First Team All-League from 2014-17, in addition to being named the team captain for the 2017 season. Phillps was named the 2017 3A Oregon Player of the Year for her performance at Scio while also earning a spot on the All-State first team from 2015 to 2017.
A four-year varsity letter winner, the Scio, Ore., native was nominated for the Statesman Journal Mid Valley Sports Award Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017, was a two-time Pacwest Player of the Year and was twice named to the Statesman Journal Mid-Valley All-State team.
The daughter of Amber and Brian, Phillips will major in kinesiology as she attends OSU.
Maia Rader – SS, Fr., 5-5, Sacramento, Calif. (Bella Vista H.S.)
A four-year varsity letter winner for Bella Vista H.S., Rader looks to continue her success from the prep level as she joins Oregon State.
While at Bella Vista, Rader helped lead the Broncos to a second place finish in the 2016 playoffs and was named to the All-Conference teams as a freshman and sophomore. Rader was also named the team captain for her senior year as she looks to guide her team to the state tournament.
The daughter of Cortney and Robert, Rader will major in criminology as she comes to Corvallis.
