Travis Eckert Named Pac-12 Pitcher Of The Week
May 23, 2016 | Baseball
SAN FRANCISCO – Travis Eckert has been named the Pac-12 Conference's Pitcher of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
Eckert was perfect through 6 2/3 innings Friday night, retiring the first 20 batters he faced in the Beavers' 3-1 win over USC, helping pace Oregon State to a series victory over the Trojans. He ended the game having faced one batter over the minimum, scattering two hits and a run with five strikeouts.
The complete-game effort was the first of Eckert's career, and the win improved his season record to 6-4.
The honor is the second of the season for Eckert, whose first came April 4. By securing his second award of the season, he joins the likes of Andrew Moore (2015), Jace Fry (2014) and Matt Boyd (2013) as Oregon State pitchers who recently have been recognized twice in the same season.
Eckert is also the 22nd pitcher in school history to have multiple Pitcher of the Week honors during their career.
The honor is the 80th Pitcher of the Week Award for Oregon State dating back to 1986. The Beavers are second amongst all Pac-12 schools, behind only Stanford, which has 82.
Oregon State opens its last regular season series Friday when hosting UCLA in a 4:05 p.m. PT matchup at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. Tickets remain and can be purchased by visiting BeaverTickets.com or calling 1-800-GOBEAVS.
