Beavers' Offense Rolls In Win Over UW
April 02, 2016 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – KJ Harrison and Cadyn Grenier each tallied three hits and Travis Eckert tossed five scoreless innings as the sixth-ranked Oregon State baseball team defeated Washington, 10-1, in front of 3,205 at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field Friday afternoon.
The win opened the series against the Huskies in fine fashion for the Beavers, who tallied 14 hits against three Washington pitchers. Logan Ice and Christian Donahue each had two hits, while Ice, Harrison, Kyle Nobach and Jack Anderson all drove in two.
Eckert started and worked five scoreless innings before giving way to Bryce Fehmel in the sixth. Eckert allowed just three hits and struck out a career-best nine, posting two every inning through the fourth.
The senior earned the win to improve to 3-2 this season.
The Beavers (18-6 overall, 4-3 Pac-12 Conference) chased Washington (13-9, 4-3) starter Noah Bremer after 3 1/3 innings. The right-hander allowed 10 hits and eight runs and dropped to 3-1 on the year.
OSU scored three in the first thanks to RBIs from Ice and Anderson. The team's second run of the inning scored on a Washington error.
The Beavers tacked on four more in the second. Harrison drove in his two runs on a double to left, then scored when Ice singled to left center. Ice then scored on a single by Nobach up the middle.
OSU added a run in the fourth, then put two more on the board in the eighth via singles by Donahue and Anderson.
Bryce Fehmel closed out the game, earning his first career save after holding Washington to one unearned run over four innings. He struck out two and walked one.
Oregon State and Washington continue the series Saturday afternoon at Goss Stadium. First pitch is slated for 4:05 p.m. PT. It can be heard live on the Beaver Sports Network and it will also air on Pac-12 Oregon and Pac-12 Washington.
The first 1,000 fans will receive a Pat Casey bobblehead. They will be distributed at the home plate gate only.
