
Madrigal Extends Hit Streak In Game 2 At Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. – Nick Madrigal extended his hit streak to 14 games with a sixth-inning double and Jordan Britton worked 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief but third-ranked Oregon State lost 5-0 to No. 17 California Friday night at Evans Diamond.
KJ Harrison, Logan Ice and Trever Morrison also recorded hits for the Beavers, who dropped to 16-4 this season and 3-2 in Pac-12 Conference play. Cal, meanwhile, improved to 13-6 on the year and 3-2 in league action.
The teams conclude the three-game series Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Note, this is 30 minutes earlier than the originally scheduled 1 p.m. start.
Britton came on in the sixth and got the Beavers out of the frame after inheriting two runners. He proceeded to toss 2 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out three. In two appearances against the Golden Bears this weekend he has thrown 4 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out six with no hits allowed.
Cal took a 2-0 lead through four thanks to solo home runs from Mitchell Kranson and Brett Cumberland.
The Golden Bears scored two more in the fifth and another run in the sixth for a five-run lead.
Jake Thompson started for the Beavers and took the loss. The junior allowed nine hits and five runs – four earned – with five strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. He dropped to 2-2 on the year.
Ryan Mason tossed a complete-game shutout to improve to 3-1 this season. The California righty struck out seven and walked one.
