Meet The Freshmen: Tarea Green
August 20, 2015 | Women's Basketball
As the Beavers returned to campus for summer workouts, there were three new faces amongst the players: freshmen Katie McWilliams, Taylor Kalmer and Tarea Green. Today we will take a look at our final Beaver freshman: Tarea Green.
Center – 6-4 – Hillsboro, Ore.
Tarea Green joins the Oregon State women's basketball team having accomplished just about all there was to accomplish at Hillsboro High School. The 6-foot-4 center set school records for points and rebounds in a season, and also holds the school record for points in a game.
Green capped off her high school career with back-to-back First Team All-Pacific Conference honors, and finished her junior season as the third-highest scorer in the state at 18.3 points per game. Green would go on to average over 18 points again in her senior campaign, and joined the Beavers as the No. 45-ranked post player in the 2014 class by ESPN. She is the first Hillsboro High School player to play at an NCAA Division I institution since the 1970's.
When it came down to which DI school she would choose, Tarea knew Oregon State was the right fit for her.
“I love the team atmosphere here,” Green said. “Coach Rueck, Coach Jonas, Coach Mandy and Coach Eric are all incredible people. It really felt like the right place for me to be.”
ESPN Scout on Green:
“Physical low-post prospect with developing footwork, back-to-basket game; post defender, shot blocking presence; mobile in transition game.”
Off the floor, Tarea enjoys cooking and singing. She has also taken an interest in community service activities, helping run the Be The Match Marrow Donor Drive in April of her senior year. Tarea and Team HilHi raised nearly $500 at the event.
After spending much of her life in the Portland area, Green is now excited to return to Corvallis, the city of her birth. And over the coming seasons, she is ready to show Beaver Nation what she can do on the floor.
“Beavers fans can expect me to give my all for the team,” Green said. “I'm going to work hard all the time and I'm always going to have a smile on my face.”
