Meet the Freshmen: Taylor Kalmer
August 11, 2015 | Women's Basketball
As the Beavers returned to campus for summer workouts, there were three new faces amongst the players: freshmen Katie McWilliams, Taylor Kalmer and Tarea Green. Today we will take a look at our second Beaver freshman: Taylor Kalmer.
Guard – 5-8 – Chandler, Ariz.
Taylor Kalmer knew she was a Beaver the first time she visited the Oregon State campus. A native of Chandler, Ariz., Kalmer will bring her talents to the Pacific Northwest this season to join head coach Scott Rueck's squad as they make their bid for a second consecutive Pac-12 title.
Kalmer joins the Beavers at the point guard position after averaging 18.7 point, 3.1 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game in her senior year at Corona del Sol High School. Overall, the four-time All-City selection ended her career with 1,648 points, 303 assists and 197 steals, and started all four years under coach Andy Strom. Kalmer was named an Adidas Three Stripe All-American after averaging 20 points per game in her junior campaign.
ESPN Scout on Kalmer: “Fundamental combo-guard with consistent mid-range game; superb shooter to the arc complemented by solid floor game.”
Off the floor, Kalmer enjoys painting and drawing, as well as hanging out with friends, swimming and hiking. She is also a standout student, earning the Dr. Voie Stuart Chase Coy Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award all four years of high school.
Kalmer says there has been a bit of an adjustment to life in the Pacific Northwest, but she is enjoying living in the state of Oregon.
“Coming from Arizona where there are Cacti everywhere, Corvallis is a little bit different,” Kalmer said. “Everything is so green and beautiful here. I've loved living in Corvallis so far.”
In terms of what Beaver Nation can expect to see from Kalmer on the floor, she intends to do whatever it takes to help the Beavers win games. The Chandler, Ariz. Native says she can't go a day without working out, whether that means doing pushups in her dorm room, running around campus or getting in an extra weight-room session.
“Beaver fans can expect me to work hard both on and off the court,” Kalmer said. “I will do whatever I can to help my team win.”
