Beavers Drop Championship Battle to Zags
March 10, 2026 | Women's Basketball
LAS VEGAS – Oregon State left everything on the court in yet another 40-minute battle with Gonzaga but came up just a few plays short in a 76-66 WCC Championship game loss to the Bulldogs.
Jenna Villa led the Beavers in scoring with 20 points, including a 9-for-10 day at the free throw line. Tiara Bolden scored 19 points while pulling down eight rebounds. Lizzy Williamson added 12 points and was a rebound short of a double-double.
Kennedie Shuler scored eight points and dished out five assists to move into for fourth in the single-season assists rankings, one behind coach Sydney Wiese (2014-15, 179) at 178. Shuler now ranks second all-time among juniors after passing Talia von Oelhoffen.
As with past games between the new Pacific Northwest rivals, the game was a fight from the beginning. Gonzaga led 19-17 after the first quarter but Oregon State clamped down defensively and held GU to eight second-quarter points en route to a 28-27 halftime lead.
The third quarter was an explosive scoring affair with both teams hitting a variety of contested looks throughout. The Zags made a few more and led by four heading into the final period. Trailing 59-53, Oregon State made a 6-0 run from Bolden and Williamson to draw even at 59.
Williamson made two more baskets but Gonzaga got the benefit of the whistle on two and-one's to go up 65-63. After a few missed free throws by the Beavers, Gonzaga was able to pull away late and made the charity shots necessary to hang on for the win.
Oregon State outrebounded GU 41-33. The Beavs made 15-of-20 free throws and shot 40 percent from the floor.
The Beavers will await the word of the postseason selection committees to learn if their season continues.
