Beavers' Season Comes To A Close
June 01, 2015 | Baseball
DALLAS – The Oregon State baseball team saw its 2015 season come to a close Sunday night with a 7-1 loss to host Dallas Baptist at the Dallas Regional at Horner Ballpark.
The Beavers conclude the season at 39-18-1, just one victory shy of hitting the 40-win plateau for the fourth consecutive season. Dallas Baptist, meanwhile, improved to 45-14 and will play VCU in the Dallas Regional Championship game Monday at 10:05 a.m. PT.
DBU scored the game's first four runs, taking a 3-0 lead after two before pushing the lead to 4-0 with another run in the fourth. The Beavers got on the board in the top half of the fifth when Kyle Nobach doubled and scored when Caleb Hamilton doubled to the gap in right. He was caught at third trying to stretch it into a triple.
The teams held that score for three more innings before the Patriots added three runs in the eighth.
Travis Eckert started and lasted two innings before being relieved by Luke Heimlich to start the third. Eckert allowed four hits and three runs and took the loss. He dropped to 6-2 on the year.
Heimlich was sharp in relief, scattering six hits and two runs in 5 1/3 innings. The freshman pitched twice on Sunday, and combined to allow six hits and two runs with four strikeouts in seven innings of work versus VCU and Dallas Baptist.
Sean Stutzman started for the Patriots and allowed three hits and a run over 5 2/3 innings. He improved to 8-1 on the year.
Nobach led the Beavers with two hits. It marked his 17th multi-hit effort of the year, trailing only KJ Harrison (20) and Jeff Hendrix (19).
Chane Lynch and Camden Duzenack each had two hits to lead Dallas Baptist.
The Beavers were forced into playing the elimination game after losing a 5-1 contest to VCU earlier in the day.
