May 06, 2015 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – KJ Harrison and Billy King drove in three runs apiece to pace the 22nd-ranked Oregon State baseball team to a 10-2 win over visiting Oregon in front of 2,747 fans Tuesday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
King was one of four Beavers with two hits, including Christian Donahue, Elliott Cary and Kyle Nobach. Oregon State tallied 13 off five Oregon pitchers.
OSU posted a five-run third inning, bringing the team's total to 55 in the frame this season. OSU, which is 16-7 this season when scoring at least one run in the third, went up first on a single by Cary. Harrison then doubled for a 3-0 lead, followed by King's first double that made it 5-0 in favor of the Beavers.
A Jeff Hendrix single in the fourth netted two more runs, and before the fans at Goss Stadium knew it, OSU had blown the game open, 7-0.
Sam Tweedt, making his fourth start of the season, was the recipient of the offensive outburst. The freshman scattered three hits and two runs – both unearned – in 5 2/3 innings. He improved to 7-1 on the year.
Luke Heimlich worked the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing two hits with a strikeout, for his third save of the season.
Up 8-2 entering the eighth, the Beavers added two runs for good measure. King's second double of the game drove in Cary from second, and Nobach hit a sacrifice fly for the team's 10th run.
The loss went to Oregon starter Josh Graham, who allowed 10 hits and seven runs in 3 2/3 innings. He now stands at 2-1 on the year.
Oregon State won its sixth game in its last seven to improve to 30-14 on the year. OSU has now won 30 or more for seven consecutive seasons.
Oregon, meanwhile, dropped to 27-21.
