Moore Sharp In Civil War Start
April 11, 2015 | Baseball
EUGENE, Ore. – Andrew Moore scattered two hits and an unearned run in 7 1/3 innings but the Oregon State baseball team was unable to hold on to a lead in a 3-2 loss to Oregon Friday night at PK Park.
The Ducks won the game on a 2-out, 3-2 bases-loaded walk by pinch hitter Kyle Kasser delivered by Mitch Hickey. The righty came on in relief of lefty Luke Heimlich, who was charged with an unearned run and dropped to 1-4 this season.
Moore did not figure in the decision. The right-hander was sharp in 7 1/3 innings, with his lone blemish coming in the fifth when the Ducks scored an unearned run.
In three career appearances against Oregon (20-15 overall, 3-7 Pac-12 Conference), Moore has allowed just two earned runs in 24 1/3 innings. In two starts at PK Park, he has not allowed an earned run in 16 1/3 innings while allowing a total of four hits.
The Beavers (22-10, 5-5) twice had the lead, 1-0 after a Trever Morrison single in the fifth, and at 2-1 when KJ Harrison hit an eighth-inning bloop single that enabled Jeff Hendrix to come in from second.
OSU rapped out 11 hits – all singles – against three Oregon pitchers. Cole Irvin, who started, did not figure in the decision after allowing two runs in seven innings. Garrett Cleavinger picked up the win to improve to 2-1 after getting the final out of the ninth.
Hendrix, Harrison, Kyle Nobach and Michael Gretler all had two hits in the loss.
Oregon State and Oregon continue the series Saturday night at PK Park. The Civil War presented by PacificSource Health Plans, The Oregon 529 College Savings Network, McDonalds, Spirit Mountain Casino and Your Local Ford Stores, will open Friday night at 7:30 p.m. PT in a game televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
