Beavers Edged By Mustangs In Opener
March 28, 2015 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – A six-run seventh inning propelled Cal Poly to an 8-1 victory Friday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field, sending No. 24 Oregon State to its first home loss of the season.
A grand slam by John Schuknecht highlighted the six-run inning and dropped OSU to 13-1 at Goss Stadium this season. The Beavers (20-6 overall) and Mustangs (8-14) continue the series Saturday at 1:35 p.m. PT.
The Beavers managed just four hits off Cal Poly starter Casey Bloomquist, who picked up the win to improve to 2-2 on the year. The right-hander tossed a complete game, striking out three to no walks.
Andrew Moore took the loss, his first of the season, to drop to 2-1. He finished with a quality start, allowing four runs – three earned – in 6 1/3 innings. He left with a 2-1 deficit but had runners on first and second with one down when Zack Reser came on in relief.
KJ Harrison led the Beavers with two hits.
Oregon State and Cal Poly continue the series Saturday at Goss Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. PT.
