NORMAL, Ill. - Camille Saxton led the Oregon State volleyball team with 16 kills and the Beavers never trailed by more than three points in any given set in a sweep of Presbyterian (25-13, 25-21, 25-22) Saturday at the Redbird Classic.
"We turned it around a little bit today," head coach Taras Liskevych said. "We had a chance to play several different people, like Alina (Sopizhuk), Sara Almen and Haley Clarke. And we also played Megan McBride as a hitter and she did a good job.
Oregon State (3-2 overall) finished with a season-best hitting percentage of .268 while holding Presbyterian to a .128 mark. Saxton was the lone OSU player in double figures as she hit .382. McBride had eight kills and Allie Rogers finished with seven.
Presbyterian (1-6), meanwhile, was led by Presley Mabrey and Allison Brown, who had seven kills apiece.
Offensively, the Beavers held a strong advantage with 47 kills to just 27 for Presbyterian. OSU also managed 43 assists - with Tayla Woods tying her season high with 34 - to just 25 for the Blue Hose. Those categories, however, were the only dominant stats for either team.
OSU tallied four blocks to eight for Presbyterian while the Beavers finished with 43 digs to 38 for Presbyterian.
The Beavers ran through Presbyterian in the first set, 25-13, as Saxton and Rogers each had six kills and Laura Schaudt pitched in with four. Oregon State hit a healthy .400 during the set while never trailing.
Set two was much the same with the Beavers winning, 25-21. OSU hit .278 in the frame to just .138 for the Blue Hose. Saxton had an ace and another six kills during the set while McBride tallied four kills of her own.
Presbyterian found itself up late in set three, 20-19, but the Beavers edged forward to take a 21-20 lead, one that it held until posting a 25-22 win. Saxton again led the Beavers, this time contributing four kills in the frame.
The Beavers finish their trip to Normal on Saturday with a 5 p.m. PT match with host Illinois State. Live stats will be provided for the match. The matchup, meanwhile, is slated to have live video as well, available on osubeavers.com.
