September 08, 2012 | Women's Volleyball
CHICAGO - Camille Saxton tallied 15 kills and Laura Schaudt added 10 to pace the Oregon State Volleyball team to a three-set sweep (25-22, 25-19, 27-25) of UIC Saturday at the Chicago Classic.
Tayla Woods collected 27 assists and Becky Defoe added 21 digs to help the Beavers improve to 5-2 this season. UIC, meanwhile, dropped to 3-5 this season.
"This was a good win," head coach Taras Liskevych said. "We made a good team comeback at the end. It was a good gut check for us; UIC came out and played well. This was a good way to prepare for Penn State tonight.
"Katelyn Driscoll also played well toward the end of the third set and Becky Defoe did another great job with digs."
Saxton collected six of her kills in the first set while Schaudt posted three. Saxton also had six in the third set. Additionally, she finished with 10 digs for her second double double of the 2012 season.
Janise Dimuke and Sara Sternard had 10 kills apiece to pace UIC.
The Beavers hit .200 as a team and collected 11 blocks while the Flames hit .140 and totaled just three blocks.
Arica Nassar led the Beavers with a season-best seven blocks.
The Beavers found themselves down 15-12 midway through the third set and battled back to pull within one at 22-21. The Flames took a 23-21 lead but OSU battled back to a 24-point tie. Driscoll put the Beavers up 26-25 with a kill and a UIC attack error ended the match.
Oregon State trailed early in the first set but later jumped out to a 21-15 lead. The Beavers never looked back in their 25-22 first-set victory.
The Beavers never trailed in the second set. UIC hit just .143 for the frame and Nassar, who tallied six kills, ended the set with an assist from Woods.
