RENO, Nev. - Michael Conforto hit two three-run home runs, including one in the 10th inning, as the Oregon State baseball team downed Nevada, 10-7, Tuesday afternoon at Peccole Park to take the two-game series with the Wolfpack.
Both home runs went to left field for Conforto, who now has eight round-trippers on the year and 43 RBI, which leads the Pac-12 Conference.
Conforto found the Beavers (20-11 overall) tied at seven with runners on first and second in the top of the 10th. He hit the first pitch he saw from reliever Colby Blueberg over the left field fence - nearly the exact same spot as his fourth-inning home run - to give the Beavers the three-run lead.
Conforto also went to the opposite field for a three-run shot in the Beavers' four-run fourth inning. It was his first home run since April 1 and sent the Beavers to a 7-0 lead.
Nevada (16-16) made a late comeback for the second consecutive game. The Wolfpack scored two runs in the fifth and four in the seventh off OSU relievers Matt Boyd, Scott Schultz and Zack Reser. Ryan Gorton, who went from DH to pitcher in the seventh inning, came on and got a 6-4-3 double play for the first two outs of the inning and then got a strikeout to end the frame.
The Wolfpack evened the score at seven when Jamison Rowe and Garrett Yrigoyen hit back-to-back one-out triples off Gorton in the ninth inning. The Beavers were able to get out of the inning when getting an out on a squeeze and a ground ball to third.
Gorton got the win after three innings of work where allowed two hits and a run to improve to 1-0 this season while Tony Bryant picked up his seventh save of the season.
Dylan Davis, Ryan Gorton, Tyler Smith and Kavin Keyes all drove in a run apiece for the Beavers.
Gorton and Keyes each drove in a run in Oregon State's second inning as the Beavers took a 2-0 lead. Davis put the Beavers up 3-0 with a single in the third.
Smith extended his hit streak to 13 games in the fourth when he singled through the left side of the infield for Oregon State's first run of the inning.
Dan Child made his ninth start of the season and worked 5 1/3 innings. He allowed five hits and two runs with three walks and six strikeouts.
Daniel Levine started for Nevada and worked 1 1/3 innings, giving up three hits and two runs in 29 pitches.
Blueberg took the loss to drop to 0-2 this season.
Smith, Conforto, Davis and Ryan Dunn all had two hits for the Beavers. Oregon State finished with 12 hits off 10 Nevada pitchers.
The Beavers return home this weekend and continue non-conference play when they host Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a three-game series that starts Friday at 5:35 p.m. PT.
