Oregon State starts 2-0 for the second consecutive season, the first time opening undefeated after two games in back-to-back years since 1999 and 2000.
The Beavers have held both of their opponents this season below 40 percent shooting from the field. New Mexico State shot 36.2 (21-58) percent and Niagara finished at 38.2 (29-76) percent.
The Beavers' 81 percent clip from the free throw line (17-21) is their best percentage from the stripe with at least 20 attempts since Feb. 9, 2012 against Washington State.
Junior Ahmad Starks had career highs with 33 points, 11 field goals, 21 field goals attempted, nine made free throws and 12 free throws attempted. His previous career high for points came against California (24) on Jan. 5, 2012.
Starks' 33 points are the most by a Beaver since Jared Cunningham's 33 against Washington State on Feb. 9, 2012.
It's the 113th 30-point game in Oregon State history.
Freshman Jarmal Reid scored his first career points by going 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
Senior center Angus Brandt had a career-high three steals. He also equaled his career bests with five assists and two blocked shots. It's the third time he's had five assists in a game with the last coming vs. UCLA on Jan. 19, 2012 and the fifth time he's had two blocks with the most recent against Washington State on Dec. 31, 2011.
Sophomore guard Challe Barton had career highs with three rebounds and two steals.
