Corvallis, Ore. – Junior Camille Saxton (Balzac, Alberta) killed a career-high and match-high tying 18 balls en route to a Oregon State volleyball team (4-2) four set victory (25-21, 25-23, 19-25, 25-21) over Loyola Marymount (3-2) on Sunday evening.
“We persevered, and it was a really good contest the first two sets with a lot of siding out by both teams,” head coach Taras Liskevych said. “It kind of got out of hand in the third set, and we made a big run to come back. And I thought we maintained our poise in the fourth set. Camille [Saxton] had a really good performance, and just a lot of really good defense. I thought it was a great team win for us. [Loyola Marymount] is a quality team, and those are the kind of matches we need to win.”
Earning her third double-double of the season, senior Dre Shaw (Wailuku, Hawai'i) had 11 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Becky Defoe (Bend, Ore.) dug a match-high 14 balls with Woods earning 13. At the net, freshman Arica Nassar (Menifee, Calif.) earned five blocks to lead the Beavers.
After taking the first pair of sets, the Beavers came out of the long break unable to get into a rhythm. The team fell behind 23-10 behind the Lions, but Oregon State went on a 9-1 run to battle back to within five, but Loyola Marymount took the set. But the Beavers rebounded with five ties and two lead changes to finish of the match.
Loyola Marymount was led by Jasmine Rankins with 18 kills and 11 digs.
