CORVALLIS, Ore. - Ryan Barnes tallied three hits and Danny Hayes and Garrett Nash each homered as the Oregon State baseball team overcame a four-run deficit to defeat UALR, 7-4, in the Beavers' regional opener Friday night at Goss Stadium.
The win sets up a 6 p.m. PT matchup with No. 2 Creighton Saturday night. UALR, meanwhile, will play No. 3 Georgia in an elimination game Saturday at 1 p.m.
"This is obviously a great way to start this regional," Oregon State head coach Pat Casey said. "We started off slow but picked up it when it counts. Now, we have a very good Creighton team to play tomorrow."
Barnes went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs to pace the Beavers offensively as the club finished with 12 hits off Arkansas-Little Rock's Travis Henke and Garret Graziano. Graziano took the loss after allowing five hits and three runs in 2 1/3 innings. He is 6-10 this season.
OSU found itself down 4-0 after 4 ½ innings, but the Beavers answered back with two runs in the fifth on a triple by Barnes and a groundout by Jared Norris.
The Beavers (39-17) pulled ahead for good with three runs in the sixth when Hayes hit a solo home run, Bell doubled and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Garrett Nash homered in the eighth to cap off the 7-4 win.
Hayes and Bell each finished with two hits in the win, while Greg Garcia and Jason Houston (24-33) each paced the Trojans with two hits apiece.
Scott Schultz came on in relief of James Nygren in the fifth and picked up the win to improve to 4-0 this season. The righty walked two and struck out three in 1 1/3 innings.
Tony Bryant threw a scoreless ninth for his 11th save of the season.
