No. 6 Baseball Drops Series Opener At Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. - Ryan Dunn tallied two hits to pace the sixth-ranked Oregon State baseball, but the Beavers dropped the opening game of the Civil War presented by PacificSource Health Plans, 4-1, to Oregon Friday night at PK Park.
The loss, coupled with UCLA's 10-3 victory at Arizona State, put the clubs into a tie for first place in the Pacific-10 Conference with identical 17-8 records.
The teams combined for just 10 hits on the night, coupled with 19 strikeouts.
Dunn paced the Beavers with his two hits, while Andrew Susac, Kavin Keyes and Parker Berberet had one each. Oregon was led offensively by Danny Pulfer, who had two hits.
Sam Gaviglio scattered four runs and four hits over 6 2/3 innings but took the loss to fall to 11-2 this season. The right-hander struck out six, giving him 102 on the year, making him the 10th pitcher in team history to record at least 100 in a season.
Tyler Anderson worked 7 1/3 innings for the Ducks to improve to 8-3 this season. He struck out 10 and allowed four hits and a run.
Berberet doubled home Dunn from first in the seventh to pull the Beavers (38-15 overall, 17-8 Pacific-10 Conference) to within one, 2-1. He, however, was stranded at second and the Ducks took a 4-1 lead in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run home run by KC Serna.
Oregon (31-26-1, 9-16) scored its first run in the first when Pulfer doubled, and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly. UO made it 2-0 in the third when Aaron Jones reached on a bases-loaded fielder's choice.
Oregon State and Oregon continue the series Saturday at PK Park.
