LOWELL, Ore. -
The No. 16 Oregon State men's rowing team came up short when it went head-to-head against the top crew in the nation when the Beavers faced No. 1 Washington at Dexter Lake Saturday afternoon. The annual duals between the Beavers and Huskies were conducted as part of the Covered Bridge Regatta.
"Overall, we were outmatched today," head coach Steve Todd said. "We raced against very sharp, very strong crews today and we simply could not hold on and stay in the race."
All four of the Beavers' races (Varsity 8+, Junior Varsity 8+, Novice 8 and Varsity 4+) with the Huskies resulted in losses for the Orange & Black and were decided by approximately 30 seconds.
In Covered Bridge Regatta racing, the Novice 4+ A crew won its heat, eight seconds ahead of the Lewis & Clark and Humboldt State. OSU's N4+ B crew came in second in heat 2, covering the 2,000-meter course in 7-minutes, 52-seconds nearly 10 seconds behind the winning crew from Pacific.
Oregon State's Second Novice 8+ raced in the Men's Collegiate Varsity 8 category finishing second in the seven-crew race. The Beavers finished in a time of 6:50.3 just four seconds behind Lewis & Clark.
The Beavers will be back on the water next Saturday, April 16 for the Stanford Invitational Regatta in Redwood Shores, Calif.
