CORVALLIS, Ore. - Carter Bell and Andrew Susac both posted three hits and Garrett Nash drove in three as the Oregon State baseball team extended its winning streak to a Pac-10 best nine games with a 13-3 win over VMI Saturday at Goss Stadium.
Bell added two runs driven in as he posted his first three hit game of the season. He tallied two doubles and two stolen bases in the win.
Susac, meanwhile, doubled in the first to extend his hit streak to a personal-best 11 games. Susac, who also drove in a run, is 20-for-38 (.526) during his hit streak. The three-hit effort was the catcher's ninth multiple-hit game of the season.
Nash posted a 2-for-4 effort for his fourth multi-hit game of the season and his three RBI marked his second multi-RBI game of the 2011 campaign.
The Beavers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second when Bell doubled down the right field line.
OSU added six runs in the fourth to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Bell and Nash both drove in solo runs and Brian Stamps doubled home two to highlight the inning.
VMI pulled to within five, 7-2, in the fifth when Justin Hess drove in two on a single. That, however, did not last long as the Beavers tallied two runs in the bottom half of the inning and fourth in the seventh before the Keydets posted one in the ninth for the 13-3 finale.
Ben Wetzler started his fourth game of the season and threw his second quality start of the year after going six full innings. The lefty scattered four hits and two runs while striking out four and walking one.
Wetzler improved to 2-1 this season.
VMI starter Jason Farley dropped to 0-4 this year after lasting just four innings. He was touched for nine hits and seven runs before being replaced by Ryan Barefoot to start the fifth.
Ryan Dunn also posted two hits for the Beavers, who finished with 13 hits - OSU's eighth game of 2011 with 10 or more hits. The Beavers, as a team, upped their average to .277 with the 13 hits, up from .271 at the start of the day.
Oregon State wraps up the weekend Sunday when hosting VMI at 12 p.m. Sunday. That will be followed by a second game at 4 p.m. against New Mexico State.
