CORVALLIS, Ore. - Andrew Susac drove home two with a double in the fifth as the Oregon State baseball team posted a 5-1 victory over VMI Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium.
Susac's double broke a 1-1 stalemate and sent the Beavers to their 10th consecutive victory. Game two Sunday is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT against New Mexico State.
Jared Norris singled home a run in the first but was matched when Jordan Tarsovich singled home a run in the second. Susac doubled down the left field line in the fifth for the 3-1 lead. Carter Bell drove in his first run of the game later in the inning when he reached on a fielder's choice.
Dylan Jones, playing in his second game of the season, singled home Kavin Keyes in the sixth for the final 5-1 tally.
Josh Osich worked five innings for the first time this season and in the process, improved to 2-0 in 2011. He scattered seven hits and a run in his fourth outing of the season, walking one with two strikeouts.
Tony Bryant came on in relief of Osich in the sixth and worked four full innings. He scattered just one hit in his sixth outing of the season.
Sam Roberts took the loss for VMI and dropped to 1-2. He allowed six hits and four runs while posting seven strikeouts and issuing two walks.
Bell led the Beavers (13-3 overall) with two hits. As a team, OSU pounded out eight hits, which was matched by VMI (9-8-1).
The Beavers hit the road this upcoming weekend beginning Friday. Oregon State and Long Beach State will play a three-game series at Blair Field. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. PT.
