Omari Johnson scored 15 points and Ahmad Starks added 14 in his collegiate debut to help Oregon State to a 71-56 victory over Texas-Arlington on Sunday.
Lathen Wallace had 12 points for the Beavers in their season opener.
LaMarcus Reed had 15 points and a team-high six rebounds and Jordan Reves added 12 points for the Mavericks (1-1).
After ending the first half on a 7-2 run to take a 37-35 lead, Oregon State scored the first six points of the second half. UT-Arlington got no closer than four the rest of the game, and the Beavers led by as many as 16.
UT-Arlington committed 24 turnovers while Oregon State had just 11.
