CORVALLIS, Ore. - The No. 15 ranked Oregon State softball team rallied for a 3-2 victory against University of San Diego on Thursday afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex.
The Beavers (33-11) improved to 22-1 on the season when at least one player hits a home run.
San Diego (13-21) took an early 1-0 lead after scoring an unearned run in the third inning when Cindy McGee crossed the plate on a misplayed fly ball.
OSU answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Lisa Allen blasted a home run over the left field fence. Allen has gone deep in three consecutive games and has six home runs on the season.
The Toreros broke up the no-hitter in the sixth inning by recording back-to-back singles off of Beaver reliever Ta'Tyana McElroy and took a 2-1 lead when Kim Delpit singled to center field against senior starter Monica Hoffman.
In the bottom half of the sixth, the Beavers used back-to-back doubles from Kelly Petersen and Vanessa Iapala to knot the score and eventually took the lead when pinch runner Carrie Syphers crossed the plate after Ingrid Lochelt's lined shot to the USD pitcher.
"Getting the win is always important," said OSU head coach Kirk Walker. "We came from behind, which we've done several times this season. That's a nice characteristic to have, but you're tempting fate when you have to come from behind."
Three OSU pitchers saw action on the afternoon with Hoffman recording the victory, improving her record to 17-7 on the year. Freshman Brianne McGowan did not allow a hit in four innings of work.
Allen finished with a perfect 2-for-2 clip from the plate and freshman Natalie Johnson went 1-for-2.
The Beavers return to Pacific-10 Conference action on Friday when the host rival No. 14 University of Oregon. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the OSU Softball Complex.
