February 21, 2026 | Softball
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – A Bailey Murray no-hitter and a 17-run offensive outburst highlighted Saturday action for the Oregon State softball team at the Mary Nutter Classic. The Beavers opened the day with a dominant 17-0 win over Bethune Cookman, before falling to Cal State Northridge 4-3 in their afternoon matchup.
Game one: Oregon State 17, Bethune Cookman 0 (5 innings)
Murray walked two and struck out three in her five-inning no-hit performance against Bethune Cookman. The no-hitter was the 25th in program history, and the first for the Beavers since Mariah Mazon shut down Cal State Northridge in the 2022 season. Murray is the 15th player in program history to throw a no-hitter.
Jaeya Butler led the way in the Beavers' offensive explosion, going 4-for-4 with a double and hitting her 10th home run of the season – a second-inning bomb that put Oregon State up 5-0. Cameron Gordon went 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Madison Weir finished her day 3-for-4 with a pair of runs and three RBI.
Tristian Thompson recorded a pair of hits, as did Genevieve Beacom.
Oregon State opened the scoring with three runs in the first inning, followed by two in the second. The Beavers scored in all five innings, including a seven-run outburst in the final frame.
The 17-run outburst marked Oregon State's highest scoring game since the Beavers put up 19 against Southern Utah in 2022. Overall, the Beavers recorded 19 hits to secure the game one win.
Game two: Cal State Northridge 4, Oregon State 3
Oregon State dropped a back-and-forth second game Saturday afternoon. Cal State Northridge took an early lead, but the Beavers battled back to tie the contest twice before the Matadors claimed the victory.
Butler hit her 11th homer of the season, as she went 3-for-4 on the day. Jada Lewis went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Paige Bambarger recorded a pair of hits, while Morgan Howey and Alliyah Rodriguez had one hit apiece.
Amelia Streuber threw five and two-thirds innings, allowing three earned runs.
Oregon State got off to a promising start at the plate, but stranded a pair of runners in the top of the first inning. The Matadors answered by taking an early two-run advantage. The Beavers looked as though they might answer in the top of the fourth, but stranded runners on the corners.
Butler leveled the score in the top of the fifth with a two-run shot that cleared the left-field wall. Cal State Northridge wasted little time, retaking the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the frame.
The Beavers leveled the score again on a Lewis sacrifice fly, but again the Matadors answered to head to the seventh leading 4-3 and would claim the win by that margin.
Oregon State will wrap up its run at the Mary Nutter Classic Sunday morning when it takes on Long Beach State. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m.
