CORVALLIS, Ore. - The No. 13 Oregon State gymnastics team went 24-for-24 for the first time this season to set a school record of 197.675 to win the Salbasgeon Suites Invitational on Friday night. No. 14 Brigham Young was second with a 197.150. No. 23 Michigan State and Sacramento State tied for third with scores of 195.875. Boise State's 195.025 was fifth, followed by Seattle Pacific at 192.600.
The Beavers scored 49.400 or higher on all four events as they improved on their previous school record of 197.625 set in 2001.
"Our focus has been on continuing to improve each week, and we went 24-for-24 so that's awesome," coach Tanya Chaplin said. "I'm pleased with how they're doing."
The last time the Beavers went 24-for-24 was also against Michigan State, when OSU hit all 24 routines in a meet in East Lansing last season.
OSU gymnasts won or tied for first on every event. Chelsea Plourde won the all-around with a career-best 39.650, tying the second best score in OSU history. She also won vault with a career-best 9.975. Heidi Goehring won bars for the second meet in row, tying her career-high of 9.95. Chrissy Lamun set a personal best of 9.95 on beam to win that event, and Tanya Ricioli-Hebron celebrated Senior Night with a 9.925 on floor to tie BYU's Jamie Mabray for top honors.
Plourde's vault score capped off a season-high 49.400 for the Beavers. Ricioli-Hebron added her second 9.90 of the year, and Th?r?se Videan had a season-high 9.875. BYU's Mabray and Trisha Ashton had a pair of 9.95 vaults to place second overall.
OSU's five counting scores on bars all placed in the top four as OSU finished with a 49.425. In addition to Goehring's 9.95, Plourde had a career-best 9.925 to place second. Videan, Ricioli-Hebron and Heather Justus had 9.85 marks to tie two other gymnasts for fourth place. BYU's Kari Lords was third with a 9.875.
The Beavers, who rank seventh in the nation on beam, turned in a season-high of 49.400. Lamun won the event for the second time this year, while Goerhing and senior Elaine Yoder placed fourth with 9.875 routines. Mabray and Sacramento State's Tiffany Bass tied for second with 9.90 scores.
OSU finished out the night with a 49.450 on floor, highlighted by Ricioli-Hebron's win on her final regular season performance in Gill Coliseum. Plourde's 9.90 tied Lords and BSU's Tiffany Putnam for third, and Justus, Lamun and Videan tied for sixth with 9.875 performances.
Plourde's all-around title was her fifth of the year. Ricioli-Hebron tied her season-high of 39.525 to place second, and Lamun had a career-high 39.300 to take fourth. Lords finished fourth with a 39.350.
