As a Senior (2005): After competing in three events in each of the Beavers' first three meets, Heather suffered an elbow injury that kept her out of the next four meets... she returned to the floor lineup at Arizona and tied for the team lead with a 9.800... in her second meet back from the injury, she scored a 9.725 on vault and another 9.80 on floor... posted a career-high 9.95 on the floor, to tie for second, at Cal State Fullerton becoming just the 12th OSU gymnast to achieve such a score on floor... she also recorded a 9.875 on the vault at the same meet... tied for third on the vault at the LadyBack Classic when she tied her career-high with a 9.90... tied for second on the floor at Pac-10 Championships with a 9.90... tied for third at the Salbasgeon Suites Invitational on the floor with a 9.85... second on vault with 9.825 in Utah meet... had one of the best meets of her career at the NCAA Regionals rising to the occasion to post marks of 9.875 on floor, 9.85 on vault and 9.65 on bars... "hit" 19-22 routines in 2005.
As a Junior (2004): Vaulted in all 12 meets and was in the bars and floor lineups in nine meets... Averaged 9.811 on floor, 9.733 on bars and 9.675 on vault... Her top score on any event came with a 9.875 on floor in the Salbasgeon Suites Invitational, where she tied her career-high set as a freshman... Scored 9.80 or better seven times on the event... Made the bars lineup for the first time in her career and scored a career-high 9.85 three times... Scored a season-high 9.80 five times on vault while competing a vault worth a maximum of 9.90... Honorable mention Pacific-10 All-Academic Team selection.
As a Sophomore (2003): Was a mainstay on vault and floor, competing both events in all 13 meets in 2003... Averaged 9.787 on floor and had a season-high 9.825 six times... Scored a 9.80 or better on vault seven times... Had a career-high of 9.90 in the season opener and averaged 9.702 for the season... Won the event with a 9.875 against Arizona State for her first collegiate event title... Exhibitioned on bars twice, with a high of 9.725, and once on beam (9.675)... Was selected as an honorable mention pick on the Pac-10's All-Academic Team.
As a Freshman (2002): One of two freshmen who competed on two events... Competed on floor in every meet and on vault in every meet but one... Scored a 9.80 or better 10 times - seven times on floor and three times on vault... Had a career-high 9.875 on floor at the NCAA West Regionals two weeks after scoring a then-career high 9.85 at the Pacific-10 Championships... Prior to Pac-10s, her best mark was a 9.80, which she had scored five times... Averaged 9.745 on the event and hit her last 13 routines after a fall in the season opener... Had some problems with consistency on vault, however... Scored a season-high 9.80 three times (at Utah, at Cal, and vs. Arizona), but averaged 9.608 as a result of some misses... Had the team's top vault score at the NCAA Championships, where she scored a 9.75... NACGC/W Scholastic All-American.
Pre-Oregon State: Competed at Level 10 for the first time in 2001 and had an outstanding year... Placed third on vault at the Junior Olympic nationals, where she also placed 12th on floor and tied for 15th on bars... Won the all-around and all four individual event titles at the 2001 regional meet... At the state meet, she won the all-around, as well as vault, bars and beam... Competed at Level 9 from 1998-2000.
Personal: Born in Olympia, Washington... Daughter of Pam and Steve Justus... Her older sister, Adrienne, was a cheerleader at OSU and her brother, Ryan, is a senior at OSU... Her foster sister, Bea Tistu-Whisenhunt, was a member of the OSU gymnastics team from 1996-2000... Exercise and sport science major... Graduated from Clackamas High School, where she was a member of National Honor Society... Was named Business Student of the Year at Clackamas... Chose OSU because "I like the school, the gymnastics coaches and team, and it's close to home."
