STANFORD, Calif. - No. 1 UCLA captured its third Pacific-10 gymnastics championship in four years with a 197.625, while 14th-ranked Oregon State placed fourth with a 196.125 at Maples Pavilion on Saturday.
No. 12 Arizona took second with a 197.050, while host No. 10 Stanford was third at 196.150. Washington placed fifth (195.475), followed by No. 16 Arizona State (194.125) and California (189.600).
"This was an extremely close meet, and I knew it was going to be. We had a lot of athletes step up and perform really well for us," said coach Tanya Chaplin. "But we have some things we need to work on and clean up before regionals. We weren't as clean as we could have been."
Annie Campbell placed third on two events, with a career-high 9.925 on vault and another 9.925 on floor. Elizabeth Jillson tied for fourth on bars with her third 9.925 of the season.
After a bye in the first rotation, the Beavers came out strong on floor to open the meet with a 49.375. Campbell's 9.925 led the way for OSU, while Jerra Lopez added a solid 9.875. Th?r?se Videan and Heather Justus scored a pair of 9.85s, with Justus' turning in a new career-high. Lindsay Nelson rounded out the scores with a 9.825.
The Beavers kept the momentum going with a season-high 49.250 on vault after another bye. Campbell again led OSU with another 9.925, this one being a new career-high. Videan posted a 9.875, while Tanya Ricioli and Nelson each scored 9.85s. The Beavers also counted Justus' 9.75 score.
Jillson scored her third 9.925 of the season to lead OSU on bars, but the Beavers had some problems on that apparatus and had to count Heidi Goehring's 9.25. Nelson tied her career-high with a 9.875, while Ricioli scored a 9.825 and Lopez a 9.80.
Elaine Yoder matched her season-high with a 9.85 on beam for OSU's highest score in its final event, and she ended up tying for eighth. Campbell added a 9.825 to help the Beavers to a 48.875 on that event. OSU also counted a 9.775 from Lopez, a 9.725 from Daylee Ingalls and a 9.70 from Ricioli.
