THEN AND NOW:
Oregon State and Stanford have an extensive history dating back to the first matchup back in 1981. In that time, the Beavers and Cardinal have met at Gill Coliseum 35 times, the Beavers holding a 31-4 record when hosting and 73-34 advantage in the all-time series. Stanford is in the midst of a fantastic season, however, coming off a 197.725 and are ranked tenth nationally entering this Friday's competition.
CAREER YEAR:
Olivia Buckner's fantastic junior season continued at the Texas Woman's Quad last weekend, as the Riverton, Utah, native won her second-consecutive vault event title thanks to a 9.850, making it four separate 9.825 or better scores in her last five meets. Entering the season with 32 hits in 43 routines (74.4%), Buckner has hit on 90% of her 22 total routines this season, competing in the vault and beam in every meet, also joining the floor lineup for each of the last six weeks.
REINA'S ON A RUN:
Reina Marchal didn't compete as a freshman but has been a consistent figure in the Beaver vault and floor lineups as a sophomore, and in recent weeks, has taken her game to a new level. In the last three meets, Marchal has earned a 9.825, season-high 9.900 and 9.850 for her floor routines while continuing to hit with 9.700-plus scores on vault; his season, Marchal has a perfect hit rate on 14 total routines, with a hit defined as a score of 9.650 or higher.
LOVIN' IT, LO:
Lauren Letzsch has been a steady figure in the Beaver beam lineup for two seasons now and is in the midst of a strong run of form. In each of the last three meets, she's earned at least a 9.825, which included a season-high 9.925 against Southern Utah last weekend and a 9.850 at the Texas Woman's Quad. For her performances, the Golden, Colo., native has won three event titles in eight meets and enters Friday's matchup with Stanford as the team leader in average beam score at 9.831.
MANAGING PRESSURE:
When lineups were submitted at the Texas Woman's Quad meet, Savannah Miller was not in the top six on bars. However, after a pair of falls to start the team's opening rotation, Miller was called upon to step up and stabilize the lineup with a hit, and the Waterford, Mich., native delivered, earning a 9.775 that setup a run of solid scores for the Beavs.
Miller later vaulted her way to another 9.775 and earned a 9.825 on floor that made it six-consecutive appearances with a 9.825 or better, and enters this week's competition with 22 hits in 23 routines, both of which are single season career highs.
STANDOUTS:
After Miller's bars routine, the trio of Sophia Esposito, Camryn Richardson and Ellie Weaver delivered, going 9.825, 9.850 and 9.900 to round out the rotation. That trio has competed in order in during the four-five-six spots in each of the last three meets, earning lower than a 9.800 just once in nine combined routines, while also combining to win two event titles on a pair of 9.900s from Esposito (Feb. 14 vs Southern Utah) and Weaver (Feb. 22 at TWU Quad); Richardson's average sits at 9.850 in those three competitions.
UP NEXT:
Oregon State gymnastics will hit the road for its next competition, traveling to Logan, Utah, for a March 6 meet at Utah State, returning home for senior day on March 14, hosting the Denver Pioneers inside legendary Gill Coliseum.
