Volleyball Sweeps Stetson At OSU Showcase

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Gina Schmidt had 10 kills and nine digs to lead the Oregon State volleyball team to a three-game sweep over Stetson on the second day of action at the OSU Volleyball Showcase in Gill Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. Game scores were 15-4, 15-3, and 15-5.
Schmidt was errorless in 18 attempts to finish the match with a .556 hitting percentage. Michele Solomon tallied a .727 mark with eight kills and no errors in 11 tries, and the Beavers hit .471 as a team. Stetson finished the match even at .000.
Angie Shirley added nine kills and led the Beavers with six blocks, and OSU also saw strong play from Brandi Bonnarens, who dished out 35 assists and had three kills.
OSU had 43 kills to Stetson's 22, and the Beavers outdug the Hatters 34-29.
In the Showcase's first match Saturday, Boise State defeated Western Illinois, 3-0 (15-3, 15-10, 15-11). Tara Brinkerhoff posted a match-high 14 kills for the Broncos, while WIU's Sallie Bowles had a match-high 17 digs.
The Showcase continues through Saturday night, with Western Illinois and Stetson playing at 6 p.m. OSU and Boise State will play at 8 p.m. in the tournament's final match.
