BERKELEY, Calif. - Shelly Prochaska went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI to lift the No. 14 Oregon State softball team to a 4-0 shutout over No. 8 California at Levine-Fricke Field on Sunday.
The Beavers (31-13-1, 3-7 Pac-10) have now won five of their last six games and have defeated Cal (39-14, 3-8 Pac-10) three times this season, including twice this weekend.
"Overall it was a good game and a big win for us. It was nice for us to sweep Cal at their place," said coach Kirk Walker. "This will give us a lot of momentum heading into the upcoming week."
OSU jumped ahead early with a run in the first inning. With one out, Brynnen Guthrie and Prochaska came up with back-to-back singles, and Tarrah Beyster then walked to load the bases before Jenni Jodoin lifted an RBI single to left field to put the first run on the board.
After adding an unearned run in the sixth, the Beavers put two more on the board in the seventh. With a runner on first, Guthrie doubled to put runners at first and third. Prochaska then smacked her second double of the day to send runners home.
"We had a lot of timely hitting, and we capitalized on a few of their errors," said Walker. "Brynnen Guthrie, Shelly Prochaska and Jenni Jodoin hit the ball extremely well today."
Guthrie went 2-for-3 and scored twice, while Jodoin was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Steph Adams also had an RBI single for the Beavers.
Crystal Draper picked up her 12th win of the season after throwing the complete game shutout. She allowed just three hits, struck out two and walked four.
Nicole DiSalvio took the loss for Cal. She allowed seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
