Beyster Sets Two Records As Beavers Sweep Portland State

PORTLAND - Tarrah Beyster hit two home runs in the second game of a doubleheader to help the No. 13 Oregon State softball team sweep Portland State at Erv Lind Stadium on Wednesday. The Beavers posted a 5-2 win in the opener before taking a 5-1 win in the nightcap.
Beyster's two home runs give her 13 for the season, which breaks her own school record. She hit 12 homers in each of her first three seasons with the program. In addition, she picked up four RBI on the day, lifting her season total to 39 to tie the single-season record for RBI.
The Beavers (33-13-1) also got two-run home runs from Steph Adams and Jenni Jodoin in the first game.
OSU had to come from behind in both games as the Vikings (18-26) jumped ahead early. In game one, PSU broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the third inning. The Beavers capitalized on a Viking error in the fourth and scored two unearned runs on Adam's seventh homer of the year to tie the game. OSU broke the tie when Jodoin hit her fourth homer of the year with a two-run shot in the sixth inning. The Beavers added another run later that inning.
In game two, PSU scored a run in the first inning on an RBI double by pitcher Kelly Riskey. The Vikings kept their lead until Beyster hit a two-run homer in the third inning. The Beavers scored three more runs in the sixth inning.
Beyster picked up the wins in both games to improve to 21-9 for the season, securing her third consecutive 20-win season. She relieved starter Crystal Draper in the first game and held the Vikings to just two hits with five strikeouts in the final four innings of the game. Beyster started the second game, allowed just two hits and tied her season-high for strikeouts with 10. She threw 5.2 innings before Draper came in to pick up her first save of the season.
