CORVALLIS, Ore. - Reda Petraitis had a career-high 18 points and four other Beavers scored in double figures as the Oregon State women's basketball team posted a 72-52 victory over Washington State at Gill Coliseum on Thursday evening.
Cherrith Wiersma added 11 points for OSU, while Sissel Pierce, Felicia Ragland and Syesha Thomas all scored 10 points. Washington State had three players in double-figures, led by Jennifer Kerns with 13 points.
The 20-point margin of victory was largest for the Beavers in a Pacific-10 Conference game since they defeated Washington State by 37 points during the 1995-96 season.
"I thought this team was capable of a Pac-10 win of this margin, if we can do things right, execute and take care of the ball," said coach Judy Spoelstra. "On any given night, if we can come out and hit some shots like we did in the first half, I think this team is capable of some really good things. We see those shots hit in practice, I just wish we could get it more in games."
The Beavers (6-10, 2-2 Pac-10) shot a season-high 48.3 percent, making 29 of 60 field goal attempts on the night. WSU (3-12, 0-5) shot 35.1 percent (20-57).
OSU outrebounded the Cougars by a close 33-32 edge, highlighted by Ericka Cook's team-best nine boards for the Beavers.
Pierce had five blocked shots for the game, giving her 47 for the season to set a new single-season personal best. She had 46 blocked shots as a sophomore in 1998 and now needs just five more blocks to tie OSU's career blocked shots record.
The Beavers host Washington at 7 p.m., Saturday, January 22.
