OSU Routs Chico State To Start Season

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Josh Steinthal scored 18 points to lead Oregon State to a 92-48 win over Chico State on Tuesday night in the men's basketball season-opener for both teams at Gill Coliseum. Adam Masten and Tim Euhus scored 12 points each and Deaundra Tanner added 11 for the Beavers (1-0 overall), who open play at the SoCon Holiday Hoops Tournament on Friday when they meet South Carolina State in Greenville, S.C.
Against Chico State (0-1), Oregon State trailed briefly before taking control of the game with a 34-5 run in the first half. When Josiah Lake hit a 3-pointer to end that nine-minute span, the Beavers led 38-13 with 7:49 left in the first half.
Steinthal scored all seven of his first-half points during that run, while Tanner had six points. The Beavers shot 11-for-15 from the field during that time, including 5-for-7 on 3-pointers, while holding the Wildcats to a 2-for-17 mark and forcing four turnovers.
For the game, OSU limited Chico State to just a 16-for-69 (23.2 percent) night from the field, including 3-for-22 on 3-pointers. Oregon State's lead eventually grew as large as 46 points late in the second half.
Steinthal was 7-for-13 from the field, including 4-for-7 on 3-pointers, and had six rebounds. Tanner had five assists and four steals to go along with his 11 points, with Iyan Walker adding nine points, a team-high eight rebounds and four steals.
For Chico State, Deon Robinson had 11 points and eight rebounds with Abdul Benjamin and Shane Miller adding nine points each.
