A former two-time All-American at the University of Illinois, Laura DeBruler Santos joined the Oregon State volleyball staff as an assistant coach on March 3, 2016, with over eight years of playing, coaching and management experience at the collegiate, club and professional levels.
Most recently, DeBruler Santos served as an assistant coach at Bowling Green. Among other responsibilities, DeBruler Santos served as the Falcons’ recruiting coordinator, and had held the position since February 2015. In her stint at BGSU, DeBruler Santos coached a pair of All-MAC Honorable Mentions, and helped coach the Falcons to their first win over an ACC opponent since 2001 with a win over Notre Dame.
Prior to her stint at Bowling Green, DeBruler Santos served as a top assistant coach at Western Illinois for just over two years. In 2013, DeBruler Santos helped guide WIU back to the Summit League conference tournament for the first time since 2007, while also organizing recruiting efforts.
DeBruler Santos earned her first collegiate coaching opportunity in January 2012, when she began a stint as a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater, Illinois, which lasted just over a year. While at Illinois, she gained experience in scouting, analysis and recruiting, while aiding in the development of pin players and primary passers.
Outside of collegiate coaching, DeBruler Santos also gained experience as the assistant coach and head coach of the Prime Time volleyball club team. She is certified by the Women’s Coaches Academy, and gained professional playing experience as a member of the NUC volleyball club in Switzerland during the 2011 season.
As an outside hitter at the University of Illinois, DeBruler Santos was named a First-Team All-American in 2009 and was tabbed a Second-Team All-American in 2008. She was a three-time All-Big Ten selection, and finished her career with the second-highest kills total (1,833) all-time at Illinois.
A native of Downers Grove, Ill., DeBruler Santos graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in psychology. She and her husband, Rodnei, were married in September 2016.
