Danny Yoshikawa
- Title:
- Associate Head Coach
Danny Yoshikawa joined the Oregon State staff in the role of associate head coach in the spring of 2026.
Â
Yoshikawa joined the Beavers after six seasons at West Valley College, his second stint with the community college powerhouse located in the Bay Area. During that six-season span, the Vikings posted a record of 155-31, including an impressive mark of 138-20 over the last five campaigns. West Valley never finished with fewer than 26 wins over that period, including a perfect 33-0 mark in 2023-24, culminating in a California Community College Athletic Association championship.
Â
Yoshikawa is the fifth coach in CCAA history to take his team to an undefeated season and a state championship in the same campaign. Under his guidance, West Valley was the only team to reach the California State Championship Elite Eight in five-straight seasons. With Yoshikawa at the helm, the Vikings made the State Championship Game twice, and 27 players received scholarships to play at four-year NCAA institutions over his six seasons.
Â
Before returning to West Valley, Yoshikawa was an assistant coach at Saint Mary's. In his last season in Moraga, the Gaels knocked off nationally No. 1-ranked Gonzaga in the 2019 West Coast Conference tournament, claiming the WCC title and a berth in the NCAA tournament. In his four years with the Gaels, the team won more games than at any previous four-year period in the program’s storied history. Yoshikawa helped the Gaels to a WCC championship and sweep of Gonzaga in 2016, an NCAA berth and first round victory in 2017, and a 30-win campaign in 2018..
Â
Prior to Saint Mary’s, Yoshikawa spent two seasons as a head coach overseas. He also made stops in the college ranks at UC Santa Barbara and the University of San Francisco. Yoshikawa helped the Gauchos to a 23-9 record, earning a Big West Conference Championship, and advancing to the NIT tournament in the process. As USF’s Associate Head Coach, Yoshikawa helped rebuild the Dons as they recorded their first consecutive 20-win seasons in more than 30 years, while finishing 3rd in the WCC. During his tenure, the Dons played in the post season three consecutive years.
Â
Yoshikawa began his coaching career in his first stint at West Valley College, posting a record of 144-47 over five seasons. He guided the Vikings to consecutive Coast Conference Championships, five straight California State Community College tournaments and two Elite-Eight state championship appearances during that stretch.
Â
As a student-athlete, Yoshikawa began his career at West Valley College, before going on to play point guard at UC Davis where he guided the Aggies to two conference championships, leading them to the NCAA tournament in each year. As a senior, he was honored as the Conference Player of the Year and UC Davis Athlete of the Year. Overall, Yoshikawa compiled an impressive 100-29 overall record in his four years as a collegiate player.
Â
Yoshikawa graduated UC Davis with two Bachelor degrees in International Relations and in Japanese. He then earned his Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from San Jose State University while starting his coaching career at West Valley College.
Â
Yoshikawa comes to Corvallis with his son, Calvin, and daughter, Abigail.
