Former infielder and 2006 national champion Ryan Gipson is in his sixth season as an assistant coach with Oregon State after joining the program in October 2018.
• The Oregon State alum helped mentor the second No. 1 pick in the MLB Draft - both in Gipson’s tenure - in 2024 in Travis Bazzana. He was named a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy while being selected an All-American and the Pac-12 Player of the Year.
• The Beavers set a program-record with 118 home runs in 2024, marking the second-most ever by a Pac-12 program. Bazzana tallied a program-record 28 while Gavin Turley had 19. Turley was also selected as an All-American in 2024.
• The Beavers batted .297 as a team, hit 128 doubles and 20 triples and tied the program’s single-season record with 518 runs scored.
• Gipson helped the Beavers to their sixth consecutive postseason appearance in 2023, and OSU featured one of the most balanced offenses in the Pac-12. The Beavers led the league in stolen bases and walks, set the school’s single-season record with 89 home runs and were among the league’s best in batting average, doubles and runs scored.
• Five different position players have been named All-Americans during Gipson’s tenure.
• Jacob Melton became one of just four players in OSU history to be named a First-Team All-American by at least six organizations. The Pac-12 Player of the Year, he belted 17 home runs with 22 doubles and tied the OSU single-season record with 83 runs batted in.
• Justin Boyd was also named an All-American and led the Pac-12 in batting average (.373) and stolen bases (24). Melton was close behind in both categories, batting .360 with 21 stolen bases.
• OSU batted .296 as a team in 2022, led the Pac-12 with a .407 on-base percentage 141 doubles and 83 stolen bases. The Beavers also led the nation by drawing 389 walks.
• Oregon State, in 2021, ranked in the top half of the Pac-12 for runs scored, batting average, hits, doubles, home runs, walks and on-base percentage.
• Troy Claunch was named All-Pac-12 in 2021, while Garret Forrester and Jacob Melton earned honorable mention honors.
• Oregon State was one of the top fielding teams in the Pac-12 Conference in 2019, ranking third with a .977 percentage. The Beavers committed just 49 errors in 57 games, turned 43 double plays and kept opposing basestealers to a less than 60 percent success rate.
Gipson came back to Oregon State after four seasons as the head coach at Linn-Benton Community College, where, in 2018, he led the Roadrunners to a 42-4 overall record and 29-1 mark in conference play.
LBCC was 119-58 (.672) in his four seasons as head coach, including a 72-16 (.818) mark his last two years.
Gipson lettered for the Beavers in 2005 and 2006, helping guide Oregon State to back-to-back trips to Omaha, including a national championship.
He played in 79 career games, starting 66, and batted .270 with 10 doubles, a home run and 36 runs batted in.
In 2005, he led the then-Pac-10 with a .500 on-base percentage and was named All-Pacific-10 Conference Honorable Mention. He batted .330 that season, collecting six doubles, a triple and 22 RBI while stealing nine bases. The Beavers made their first of three consecutive trips to Omaha that season.
A Central Point, Ore., native, he played for Shasta Community College prior to his career at Oregon State. He hit .358 as a sophomore and .344 as a sophomore.
Gipson served as an undergraduate coach for Oregon State in 2011 and 2012, then spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Dixie State in Utah. He graduated from Oregon State in 2006 with a bachelors of science in sociology.
Gipson is married to the former Ali Martin and the couple has two children, a daughter named Elliot, and a son, Parker.
