Beavers Drop NCAA Regional Opener

EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon State dropped a 3-2 decision to Washington State on Friday at PK Park in the opening round of the NCAA Regional.
Ethan Kleinschmit struck out nine over 5 2/3 innings but allowed two earned runs, taking the no-decision as the Beavers (43-13) fell despite holding a lead as late as the fifth inning. Nick Lewis (10-2) went the distance for Washington State (31-26), scattering six hits and walking none across 103 pitches.
Jacob Galloway, Jacob Krieg and Paul Vazquez all doubled as OSU's offense generated six hits but went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Easton Talt drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and Jacob Galloway had the other RBI, giving the Beavers the lead in the second.
Wyatt Queen (1-2) allowed one earned run in 1 1/3 innings of relief. Albert Roblez worked the final two innings, striking out five, but Washington State had already taken the lead in the eighth on a Dustin Robinson RBI double down the right-field line.
Oregon State took a 1-0 lead in the second when Vazquez doubled to left-center and scored on a Galloway double down the left-field line.
Washington State tied it in the fourth when Max Hartman scored on a throwing error. The Beavers retook the lead in the fifth as Krieg doubled, advanced on a Tyler Inge
sacrifice bunt and scored on a Talt sacrifice fly to make it 2-1.
Washington State scored in the sixth on a Matt Priest RBI single to tie it 2-2, then added the go-ahead run in the eighth on Robinson's RBI double to take a 3-2 lead that held through the ninth.
