Segura Shines, Beavers Defeat Yale To Stay Alive In Eugene
May 30, 2026 | Baseball
EUGENE, Ore. — Eric Segura struck out a career-high 10 batters over 6 2/3 innings and Oregon State erupted for six runs in the eighth to pull away from Yale 9-2 on Saturday at PK Park and stay alive in the NCAA Tournament.
The Beavers (44-13) carried a slim 3-1 lead into the eighth before sending 11 men to the plate and breaking the game open. Josh Proctor started the rally with a double to left center — his second of the afternoon — and Adam Haight and Jacob Galloway followed with walks to load the bases. Tyler Inge cleared two of them with a double down the right-field line, AJ Singer drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run, and Ethan Porter capped the outburst with a two-run double to left center. Paul Vazquez tacked on a sacrifice fly to make it 9-1.
Proctor finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and has now hit five doubles in three career games at PK Park.
Segura (6-2) needed little of that cushion. The right-hander allowed just three hits and one run, walked one and did not surrender a run until Garrett Larsen's solo home run in the seventh. Isaac Yeager worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, striking out two, before AJ Hutcheson finished the ninth.
Oregon State scratched out its early runs against Yale starter Tate Evans (7-2). Vazquez delivered an RBI single in the first to score Easton Talt, and the Beavers added two in the second when Inge lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Proctor and Talt dropped an RBI bunt single. Evans settled in from there, but Oregon State kept the pressure on, stranding runners in the third, fifth and sixth before breaking through late.
Inge led the offense with three RBI, while Porter and Vazquez drove in two apiece. Porter went 3-for-5, Talt and Haight each reached base three times, and the Beavers piled up 15 hits without committing an error.
The win pushed Oregon State to 12-5 in elimination games under coach Mitch Canham since 2021.
Oregon State continues play in Eugene Sunday with a 1:06 p.m. PT first pitch against either Washington State or Oregon.
