Oregon State Downs Hawaii, 8-1, Clinches Series
April 25, 2026 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. — Tyler Inge collected three hits and drove in two runs from the No. 9 spot, Jacob Galloway homered and drove in two and No. 6 Oregon State chased Hawaii starter Hekili Robello with a steady stream of two-out hits in an 8-1 victory Saturday at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Inge, the Beavers' shortstop, went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI singles and a run scored. The first put Oregon State up 2-0 in the second when he poked a soft single to shallow left to score Galloway with two outs. The second restored a two-run lead in the fourth, when Inge punched a single to short to plate Paul Vazquez. He singled again in the sixth and came around on Bryson Glassco's two-out RBI.
Galloway, the senior catcher, finished 2 for 3 with a double and the first home run of his season, a two-out solo shot to right in the seventh that traveled 376 feet and capped the Beavers' scoring. He also opened the second-inning rally with an RBI double to right and added a sacrifice bunt that helped manufacture a run in the fourth.
AJ Singer went 1 for 3 with a two-run double to left-center in the sixth and an RBI sacrifice fly that benefited from a center-field error in the fifth. Glassco was 2 for 5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Leadoff hitter Easton Talt opened the game with a double and reached three times, walking once and being intentionally walked in the second.
Left-hander Ethan Kleinschmit (7-2) earned the win, working five innings, allowing one run on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Zach Kmatz fired two scoreless innings of relief, and AJ Hutcheson worked the final two frames to close out the game, which drew 4,090 fans on a 70-degree afternoon.
Robello (0-1) took the loss, surrendering five runs — four earned — on seven hits over four innings. Reliever John Alkire was tagged for three runs, two earned, in 1 2/3 innings.
Oregon State (32-9) wasted no time to get on the board. Talt cracked Robello's first pitch for a double, but the Beavers stranded him at third in the first. They broke through with two outs in the second when Galloway lined a run-scoring double to right and Inge followed with a soft single to left field that brought home Galloway. Robello issued an intentional walk to Talt before escaping further damage.
Hawaii (20-18) answered in the fourth. Tate Shimao was hit by a pitch and Mana Lau Kong followed with a single. Both runners moved up on a double steal, and pinch-hitter Gabe Wright drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Lau Kong for the only run off Kleinschmit.
The Beavers responded immediately. Paul Vazquez walked, Nyan Hayes singled and Galloway dropped down a sacrifice bunt to set up Inge's RBI single to short, restoring a two-run lead.
Oregon State pulled away in the fifth. Glassco doubled to deep right against Alkire, advanced on Bryce Hubbard's sacrifice bunt and scored when center fielder Kamana Nahaku misplayed Singer's fly ball, allowing Singer to reach third on the error. Adam Haight's run-scoring single through the left side made it 5-1.
Two outs and nobody on were no obstacle in the sixth. Inge's infield single, a wild pitch and Glassco's RBI single set the table for Singer's two-run double to left-center.
Galloway's homer in the seventh capped the offense, and Hutcheson stranded the tying run at third in the ninth by retiring Taylor Takata on a grounder to second.
Oregon State outhit Hawaii 12-5 and did not commit an error. The Rainbow Warriors stranded eight runners.
The teams complete the three-game series Sunday with a 1:05 p.m. PT first pitch at Goss Stadium.
