Oregon State Softball Faces Santa Clara This Weekend
March 31, 2026 | Softball
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Oregon State softball is hitting the road for its first West Coast Conference trip of the season, playing a trio of games against Santa Clara this weekend.
Game one: April 2, 2026 / 6 p.m. PT / Watch (ESPN+) / Live Stats
Game two: April 3, 2026 / 6 p.m. PT / Watch (ESPN+) / Live Stats
Game three: April 4, 2026 / 1 p.m. PT / Watch (ESPN+) / Live Stats
EQUALS:
For the first time in all of 2026, Oregon State softball finished a game level in hits with the opposition, that coming when both USD and OSU tallied 10 apiece in game one of last weekend's series. Through 37 total games this season, Oregon State has out-hit its opponent 14 times and been out-hit in 22 games to go with Friday's equal total.
The Beavers were victorious in that game one matchup, posting a line of nine runs on 10 hits and no errors, the team's ninth no error game of the season.
COMEBACK > SETBACK:
In game two, Coach Berg's side accomplished yet another first for the season: it won a game when trailing after the fifth and sixth innings. Though the Toreros took 6-3 advantage in the fifth that held into the seventh, a five run seventh that featured a walk-off grand slam sealed the Beavers' second-consecutive victory.
SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST:
The aforementioned walk-off grand slam came off the bat of Jada Lewis, her second career home run and second of the season, as part of a tremendous seventh inning. Mya Harrison led the inning off with a single and Paige Bambarger walked in the two spot before Nikki Donahue singled to load the bases. After Rylei Trujillo walked in a run, Lewis watched what looked to be ball four get called a strike and then responded with an opposite field blast to secure win number 14 on the season for the Beavs.
After a 1-4 performance in Sunday's game, Lewis is now hitting .375 as a junior with two home runs, 19 RBI and an on-base percentage of .440 that ranks third on the team.
RATIO:
Oregon State's strikeout-to-walk (K/BB) ratio was off the charts for both hitters and pitchers against San Diego. Across three games, OSU's pitchers struck out 16 and walked just two, a ratio of 8.0 walks per opposing hitter struck out, while the Beaver batters struck out four times to 11 total walks, a ratio of 2.75 walks per time striking out.
GOOD EYE:
Though the Beaver bats waited to come alive in that game two victory, Oregon State's hitters consistently found their way on base via the walk, combining for seven total - a mark that is second highest in a single game this season; the top mark, nine, was set against East Texas A&M in early February. Donahue led the way with two walks, meaning six different players earned their way on base with a careful eye, and two of the runners who scored on Lewis' walk-off grand slam got on via base on balls.
HOW(EY) DID SHE DO THAT?!:
Morgan Howey had an offensive explosion to open the weekend series against San Diego, tallying three extra-base hits, two home runs and seven RBI across the first eight innings played, finishing 2-4 with a double, home run and four RBI in game one before hitting a three-run shot in the first inning of game two. A senior from Arcadia, Calif., Howey has been a consistent contributor for the Beavers this season, hitting .310 with nine doubles, seven home runs and 24 RBI while starting each of the team's 37 games.
FOURTEEN:
Head Coach Laura Berg is now in year 14 leading Beaver softball in 2026, the second longest tenured head coach in program history. Only Kirk Walker (1995-2012; 18 seasons) has spent more time at the helm of the program. Of the eight head coaches in program history, Berg ranks second behind Walker for career victories, while her conference winning percentage is the top mark.
BACK THE PAC:
After two seasons as affiliate members of the WCC, the Beavers will return to the Pac-12 following the 2026 season. Though Washington State and Gonzaga don't have softball programs, the Beavs will resume Pac-12 play with Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Texas State and Utah State. New members will officially join July 1, 2026.
