HOT START:
Beaver softball got off to a hot start in last weekend's Judi Garman Classic, scoring a season-high 18 runs in a win over East Texas A&M. OSU set a program record in that victory, combining to hit five doubles, which is the most by a single Oregon State team in one game in program history. Though not a record, OSU's hitters played disciplined at the plate, tallying a season-best nine walks.
STRIKEOUTS:
Strikeouts played a pivotal role in the Beavers' matchup against former Pac-12 opponent California. Though the Golden Bears were victorious, not one single Oregon State batter struck out - the first time that's happened this season - while the pitching staff combined to strikeout a combined nine opposing hitters, which set a new season high mark.
DOUBLE TROUBLE:
Jaeya Butler's fantastic junior season continued at the Judi Garman Classic, hitting three more home runs. Not only is her season total - 14 - the second-highest mark of any player in all the country and the top mark in the West Coast Conference, it also is double the amount she hit in all of 2025, while her RBI total in 2026, 31, may soon double the 20 runs she drove in last season.
Not only that, but it was announced on Monday that the Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native had earned West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors, her second-consecutive week earning all-conference weekly honors. On the season, Butler is second in the nation with 14 home runs and ranks no. 11 for total RBI with 30; both marks lead the West Coast Conference. She also leads the conference in games played (21), at-bats (74), runs scored (25), hits (34) and slugging percentage (1.149).
EARLY PRODUCTION:
OSU's hitting in 2026 has been bolstered by the play of a number of true freshmen, but no greater than that of Camrynn Gordon and Mya Harrison. Through four weekends of action, Gordon currently leads the team in batting average, hitting .500 across 30 total at-bats and 18 appearances (12 starts), while Harrison has hit .441 across 18 appearances and 12 starts. Both have at least one triple - Harrison has two - and have combined to score 24 runs while driving in 10.
THREE HUNDO:
In 2025, there were two Oregon State student-athletes who finished the season hitting .300 or better across the entire season. Through the first four weekends of play, there are currently seven Beavers at .300 or better: Gordon (.500), Butler (.459), Harrison (.441), Paige Bambarger (.346), Jada Lewis (.327), Morgan Howey (.308) and Genevieve Beacom (.308). As a team, the Beavers are hitting .299, which ranks third in the WCC.
POWER:
With Butler leading the way, Oregon State currently leads the West Coast Conference with 28 home runs hit in 21 total appearances. However, if you subtract Butler's season total, the Beavers' 14 home runs would still rank second in the conference behind Seattle U (21) but ahead of Saint Mary's (12). When it comes to slugging percentage, which represents the total number of bases a player records per at-bat, the Beavers rank second at 0.514 - a number that ranks second in the conference and just .001 behind Seattle U for top mark.
YEAR 14:
Head Coach Laura Berg is now in year 14 leading Beaver softball in 2026, the second longest tenured head coach in program history. Only Kirk Walker (1995-2012; 18 seasons) has spent more time at the helm of the program. Of the eight head coaches in program history, Berg ranks second behind Walker for career victories, while her conference winning percentage is the top mark.
BACK THE PAC:
After two seasons as affiliate members of the WCC, the Beavers will return to the Pac-12 following the 2026 season. Though Washington State and Gonzaga don't have softball programs, the Beavs will resume Pac-12 play with Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Texas State and Utah State. New members will officially join July 1, 2026.
UP NEXT:
The Beavers will compete in this year's Jane Sanders Classic over the weekend, hosted by the Ducks in Eugene.
